Acoustic Diffraction: Does It Matter?

January 14 2015, 04:00
An excellent article from the audioXpress archive, published originally in February 2003, James Moriyasu offers a complete study examining speaker cabinet edge diffraction and what we can do to reduce it.

It is one thing to look at the sound pressure level (SPL) frequency response chart of a driver on a catalog page and another to measure the same driver in a cabinet. Taking into account previous experiments and conclusions published in books from Joseph D’Appolito and Vance Dickason, James Moriyasu attempts to measure the extent of acoustic edge diffraction and test possible solutions for reducing its levels.
