Crest Audio Redefines Mixing with the Tactus Digital Mixing System

June 24 2014, 11:58
Crest Audio has partnered with Waves to create the Tactus Digital Mixing System, providing a simple, customizable touch-screen operating interface that puts all the audio routing, processing and mixing tools within easy and immediate reach. Designed to work with the new Waves eMotion Mixer for SoundGrid, the Tactus Digital Mixing System creates a complete digital audio mixing platform, that also supports the use of Waves audio processing plug-ins for live events.

The Tactus hardware is comprised of the Tactus.FOH, the system’s audio processing core, the Tactus.Stage, a 32-in/16-out remote stage box, and the Tactus.Control, a dedicated hardware control surface. The Tactus Digital Mixing System’s modular capability, which interconnects via standard Gigabit Ethernet cabling and an internal Gigabit switch, enables multiple configurations in a range of channel counts to best suit each application, using the Waves SoundGrid Digital audio network protocol.

The Tactus.FOH frame provides eight local microphone/line inputs and eight line outputs, and serves as the audio signal-processing engine, powered by the Waves SoundGrid audio processing/networking platform, ensuring extremely low latency. When combined with the new Waves eMotion Mixer for SoundGrid, the products result in innovative and flexible mixing platform.

The Tactus.Stage includes 32 microphone/line inputs and 16 line outputs. The digitally controlled high-quality mic preamps feature ultra-low input noise, a high slew rate, very low THD, and a 66-dB adjustment range in 1-dB steps to maximize dynamic range. An integrated gigabit Ethernet switch enables easy networking and it’s possible to combine two Tactus.Stage I/O interfaces for a total of 64 stereo inputs by 32 stereo outputs.

The new Tactus.Control dedicated controller augments the touch screen control functions of the eMotion LV1 software with 16 motorized Channel faders, two motorized Master faders, Mute, Cue, and Select controls for each channel and a “scribble strip” display to identify each channel. The surface provides layer navigation controls and “Layer Lock” function, with eight Mute Group and eight assignable “User” controls, four Scene Control functions, and four dynamically assigned encoders and one master parameter encoder control.

The touch-screen eMotion LV1 Mixer is able to control 64 input channels (mono/stereo) with 32 stereo busses plus return channels, featuring four-band EQ with HP and LP per channel, dynamics processor (Comp/Gate/Expander/DeEsser/Limiter/Leveler) per channel and up to six plugins per channel with automatic plugin delay compensation. The solution also allows connecting to multiple DAWs for recording and playback.
