Fluance’s Fi70 Makes a Design Statement in Bluetooth Speakers

February 15 2016, 03:00

Arriving from Fluance, a manufacturer of “serious performance” home theater systems, as they describe themselves, the new Fi70 Bluetooth Speaker makes a statement in design and audio quality. The Fi70 is the world’s first wireless speaker to house dual 8” woofers in a 3-way six driver design with integrated amplifier, pushing the limits on audio reproduction, while combining a passion for music with a truly original design.

As Fluance puts it, the Fi70 is its “largest, and best sounding Bluetooth speaker yet”. An evolution of Fluance’s critically-acclaimed Fi Series, the Fi70 was “engineered to recreate the music user’s love with harmonious perfection. From the elegance of a jazz performance to the raw power of a live rock concert, the Fi70 has created a new expectation in home audio. Streaming music wirelessly from services such as Spotify and Pandora or playing tracks from user’s favorite playlists has never been easier and more enjoyable than ever.”

At the core of the Fi70 are powerful dual 8” polymer treated high excursion woofers, 5” woven glass fiber midrange drivers with Butyl rubber surrounds and dual 1” silk soft dome neodymium tweeters, which offer superior sound quality within its price range. Powered by two 140 watts built-in amplifiers with integrated active crossover, the new Bluetooth speaker is a true living room design, able to deliver an exceptional bass response starting as low as 30Hz and achieve an unprecedented audio frequency range in this category. As Fluance explains, the Fi70’s ability to deliver this level of sound reproduction allows it to replace complete home stereo systems, sound bars and other high-quality audio solutions.

At the same time, the Fi70 maintains a sleek and elegant design that blends into any modern living space. Its elegant hand-made wood cabinet (MDF) features a tuned rear port bass reflex design and reduces resonance for accurate response, increased warmth and an overall more natural sound. The speaker acts as a statement piece, drawing eyes to its sophisticated, commanding aesthetic and drawing ears to its exceptional sound performance.

Technically, Fluance’s Fi70 will also turn heads with its combination of design and useful and convenient features. Its aptX streaming capabilities improve the quality of Bluetooth audio, while the speaker’s integrated equalizer allows users to easily adjust treble and bass to their preference. It can also be utilized to amplify the sound of a television with its optical input. Additional features include auxiliary input, touch controls to adjust a variety of settings, integrated digital AM/FM radio, LED display and a USB port to simultaneously charge USB-powered devices while soaking in the sound.

Unfortunately, complete specifications detail Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) which might be the only drawback (why on earth hinder a new product launched in 2016 by using a less robust, outdated spec that will be more difficult to pair, limited in data rate and doesn’t support NFC? Good enough for audio? That would be 3.0+HS, at least.). Another drawback is the power supply limited to 120V, 60 Hz countries.

Fluance is a North American-based high-end home theater speaker brand, established in 1999 and based in Niagara Falls, Ontario, it markets to both USA and Canada. Fluance encourages its customers to buy direct at a lower price point. Fluance Speakers can be purchased directly at the company’s website. The Fi70 is available now in Black Ash, Lucky Bamboo and Natural Walnut for $499.
