NTi Audio Proposes Loudspeaker Inspection Solution for PA Rental Companies

A challenge for PA rental companies is how to quickly and easily verify that returned loudspeakers are fully operational, avoiding broken loudspeakers being passed on to the next client. Given the limited turn-around times, PA rental companies need to quickly and reliably identify faults, many times in a noisy environment, while the truck is being unloaded. Swiss company NTi Audio says it offers a tailored and proven solution that fulfills these requirements with outstanding efficiency.

NTi Audio proposes the combination of its RT-Speaker software (Standard Edition), together with the FX100 Audio Analyzer, for incoming PA loudspeaker inspections. The system offers acoustic and electrical tests that can be set up and executed within a few seconds. Typical measurements are frequency response, loudspeaker sensitivity, and PureSound Rub & Buzz detection on the acoustic side, as well as impedance response, resonance frequencies, and Thiele-Small (T-S) parameters for passive loudspeakers.

After the inbound loudspeaker is identified with a barcode reader, the device type, the serial number, all measurement parameters, and the workflow of the test are automatically loaded. The loudspeaker is then positioned in front of the measuring microphone and connected to the test system. The verification procedure typically takes 1 to 4 seconds, depending on the size and number of built-in drivers. The system compares the measurement results against stored reference data, which was previously acquired from a known-good loudspeaker of the same type, and immediately shows the PASSED/FAILED result to the operator. In case of a failure, a measurement report is produced for the repair department.

To compensate for the noisy environment, an elaborate cancellation algorithm filters out external sounds that are not coming from the loudspeaker under test, and the system reliably even identifies defects that are almost inaudible. Test parameters can be centrally hosted at the company head office, and automatically distributed to branches at various locations.
