Pioneer Professional Audio Unveils New Bulit Series Studio Monitors

August 6 2015, 03:00

Pioneer Professional Audio unveiled its new Bulit line of active reference studio monitors, with three models targeted at music creation. Clearly, Pioneer is trying to get a foothold in the project-studio monitor market segment with this affordable series, following the recent launch of its RM Series coaxial monitors.

The new Pioneer Professional Audio studio monitors are offered in three models (BULIT5, BULIT6, and BULIT8) with 5”, 6”, and 8” woofers, and feature improved bass response - as demanded by it target-users - and built-in equalization. According to Pioneer, the three monitors have been designed to make them more reliable in extended use even with the increased bass output, reducing unwanted resonances by utilizing highly rigid medium density fiberboard (MDF) for the construction of the enclosures and bass reflex ducts.

Additionally, to optimize sound quality and increase reliability, Pioneer used woofers made with aramid fiber cones and soft dome tweeters infused in magnetic fluid. To improve airflow through the port of the enclosure, Pioneer engineered the port hole with grooves to help direct the sound waves smoothly. The technique decreases standing waves from the mouth of the port, resulting in smooth bass and mid-bass output, with more impact.

Matching the bass output of the speakers, the soft dome tweeters are set in the center of a convex diffuser optimizing output and dispersing the sound energy in both left and right directions for wider imaging. For a cool cosmetic look, the diffuser also illuminates in white when the speakers are powered on.

Driving the tweeters and woofers separately is a highly efficient Class AB amplifier in a bi-amp configuration. The speakers also enable users to adjust high-pass level output via the built-in equalizer from the back of the speaker. The equalizer adjusts the high frequency range in one decibel increments (–2 dB to 1 dB), tailoring the audio output to the user’s listening preference.

All speaker models feature three types of inputs (XLR, TRS, and RCA) for connection to different devices such as external sound cards, computers, DJ equipment, and portable devices. For convenience and power conservation, the Bulit studio monitors also include an Auto Standby mode that automatically turns itself off when there is no input signal sensed after 25 minutes, and powers back on when signal input is detected.

All three models are offered in black with a copper gold diffuser and cone. The new Bulit studio monitors will be available in late September in the United States and Canada with suggested retail prices of $149, $199, and $249, respectively.
At the recent InfoComm 2015 show in Orlando, FL, Pioneer promoted its RM Series professional coaxial near field monitors and HRM-7 professional reference headphones.

New RM Series Professional Studio Monitors
Introduced worldwide in June 2015, Pioneer reinforced its offering with the RM Series coaxial active reference monitor speakers. Designed for the professional studio, the RM-05 and the RM-07 near-field speakers deliver a high sound pressure level (SPL) and a neutral sound with clear separation across the frequencies.

The RM Series uses a coaxial driver unit from Pioneer pro-audio brand TAD, to ensure audio from the 1.5” hard dome aluminum tweeter and woofer emanates from the same point for a more accurate sound. A newly developed waveguide minimises interference between the drivers, to produce a true, neutral sound with excellent isolation. The aramid fibre woofers and front-loaded bass reflex system with grooved ducts ensure a clean bass, while the aluminium hard domed tweeter has been optimised to deliver rousing high frequencies of up to 50 kHz.

The rigid die-cast aluminum cabinets feature curved contours to eliminate resonance, and a proprietary acoustic tube to reduce standing waves and ensure the quality of the low to mid ranges. The speakers also boast a three-band EQ and multiple inputs and feature custom-designed Class AB bi-amps with a toroidal transformer power source with auto standby On/Off function.
