QSC Introduces the E Series Range of Passive Loudspeakers

February 1 2016, 03:10

Who would have thought? QSC, one of the most recognized amplifier companies - which made a successful transition to active loudspeakers nine years ago - now introduces the E Series of passive loudspeakers at NAMM 2016. According to the Costa Mesa, CA, company, the new series takes advantage of advanced DSP when used as part of a complete QSC system.

Not surprisingly, during NAMM 2016 QSC celebrated a milestone with 750,000 K Family loudspeakers sold, since the initial launch of the K Series in 2007. The popular K Family of Loudspeakers, which include the K Series and KW Series powered loudspeakers as well the as KLA Series active line array loudspeakers are used the world over in a wide variety of applications such as musicians/bands, DJs/dance, performance venues, A/V rental, production and houses of worship.

“When we introduced the K Series, QSC truly set a new standard for powered portable loudspeakers,” says Gerry Tschetter, QSC Vice President, Professional Product Management. “The combination of sound quality, portability, reliability and industrial design really struck a chord with many different types of customers, and the K Family continues to grow in sales year after year.”

Vice President of QSC Professional Division
and introduced the new QSC E Series
of Passive Loudspeakers during NAMM 2016.

QSC set new standards in lightweight powered loudspeaker systems with the launch of the K Series in 2007. The product line established a new standard in the industry with a high output 1,000 watt Class D power module. Additionally, breaking from the traditional loudspeaker paradigm, all full-range models are fitted with the identical 1.75” high-frequency (HF) devices for unparalleled performance, and extensive digital signal processing (DSP) is employed throughout, providing levels of sonic clarity and total output that defy the system’s size and weight. The K Series’ premium-grade materials, advanced construction processes and multiple mounting and suspension options make them perfect for wide range of live and installed applications.

Further building upon the success of the K Series, QSC then debuted the KW Series as the next evolutionary step in wood enclosure loudspeakers. The KW Series features all the groundbreaking electronic attributes of the K Series in highly portable wooden enclosures. Next, QSC redefined the line array category with the introduction of the KLA Series, a fixed arc active line array system which offers all the power and sophistication of a line array system in an easy-to-use product.

With the its simple “Lift, Click and Play,” approach, the KLA can be deployed in a fraction of the time needed to deploy comparable products. The KLA has found success in a wide range of portable and installed applications, including live entertainment venues, houses of worship and many others.

The overwhelming success of the K Family led QSC to create K for Musicians, the website for guitarists, keyboardists, drummers and other musicians who have found that the K Family of loudspeakers are the perfect solution for accurate, high fidelity sound reproduction in a live application, making them perfect for use as a musical instrument amplifier. The website is available in a variety of languages, offering multiple examples of how K Family loudspeakers can be used as instrument amplifiers for electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, electronic drums and acoustic drums – and features compelling K for Musicians artist profiles, photos and interviews.

From Active to Passive
For 2016, QSC announced the introduction of its new E Series range of passive loudspeakers, designed for sound reinforcement in entertainment applications, such as live performance, DJ and dance music, karaoke and stage monitoring and production. With high-capacity continuous power ratings, the E Series loudspeakers will perform well with any quality, professional power amplifier. And when used as part of the complete E Series Entertainment System – with the company’s powerful PLD and GXD amplifiers and TouchMix Digital Mixers, the E Series takes advantage of advanced DSP settings in these latest generation products, for an even higher level of performance.

“QSC is dedicated to building products that help even an inexperienced user get professional results that would otherwise require a far more skilled operator,” says Gerry Tschetter, Vice-President Professional Product Development. “We applied this same philosophy in creating the E Series. A system of E Series loudspeakers paired with a GXD or PLD Power Amplifier or a TouchMix Digital Compact Mixer offer much more than just a group of audio components. It’s a system which offers a complete QSC solution that will deliver superior professional sounding results.”

The new E Series line consists of four models incorporating QSC’s DMT (Directivity Matched Transition) design which delivers uniform frequency response across the entire coverage area. The E10 features a 10-inch, die cast frame woofer with a 2.5-inch voice-coil housed in an enclosure that’s ideal as a stage monitor or in main PA deployment. The E12 is a trapezoidal, two-way loudspeaker using a 12-inch die cast aluminum woofer with a 3-inch voice-coil, and the 15mm, 11-ply enclosure provides enough volume to deliver solid low-frequency extension down to 60 Hz, making it an excellent choice for applications in which preclude the use of a subwoofer. The E15 is a trapezoidal, two-way loudspeaker using a 15-inch, 500W, die cast aluminum frame woofer with a 3-inch voice coil, intended for use when high-power and authoritative low-end are needed from a full-range loudspeaker.

The E18SW is a high-performance subwoofer with a single, high-powered, 18-inch, aluminum frame woofer, designed to produce crushing low-end for live performance with kick-drum and bass in the PA or for high-level, high-energy dance music. A threaded, M20 pole socket is provided with the E18SW for sub/satellite use with any of the E Series two-way models. For portable applications it includes attachment points for four optional casters.

The TouchMix range of digital mixers from QSC was shown at NAMM 2016 in road-ready flight cases, as part of complete PA systems, completing the company’s powerful PLD and GXD amplifiers, with pre-configured presets and DSP settings.

All four models are constructed of rugged plywood and coated in black, textured paint. Heavy-duty grilles lined with foam provide protection for the woofers and a professional appearance. All three two-way models are equipped with an all metal, dual-angle, 35mm socket that allows the speaker to be mounted vertically on a pole or angled down by 10° to improve audience coverage and reduce rear wall reflections. Multiple mounting options using E Series Yoke or M8 eyebolts are supported. Input connections include dual NL4 as well as screw terminal receptacles.

Advanced E Series DSP settings for use as part of a complete QSC system are soon available for download at www.qsc.com, to support a variety of applications including live sound reinforcement (with and without subwoofers), stage monitoring, dance music and karaoke.
