PreSonus Releases DAW Control Surface FaderPort 8

December 16 2016, 03:10
The project was unveiled some time ago by PreSonus and its now finally available. As PreSonus explains, although a keyboard and mouse are tried-and-true DAW-control devices, they’re far more effective when used in tandem with the FaderPort 8’s precise tactile control over mix and automation functions. With 8 touch-sensitive, motorized, 100 mm faders and 57 buttons covering 78 different functions, users can quickly zoom in on audio files for editing and make adjustments with the touch of a finger.

Compact and easy to use, the PreSonus FaderPort 8 Mix Production Controller connects via USB 2.0 to provide precise tactile control over any DAW’s mix and automation functions, including complete transport control. Using the touch-sensitive, motorized faders and buttons, users are able to adjust click-track tempo with a simple tap, modify plug-in parameters, manage aux mixes—and, of course, control track levels.

The unique Session Navigator provides easy access to eight mission-critical functions for maximum flexibility. Dedicated buttons are provided to instantly arm all tracks for recording; control mutes and Solo Clear, allowing to view only the tracks, buses, and VCAs in use. Users are not limited to preset controls, either: Four programmable User buttons allow quick and easy access to favorite functions. Large, illuminated buttons make finding quickly the functions needed, while eight high-definition digital scribble strips provide visual feedback. And when the user selects a track with the mouse, the FaderPort 8 follows that selection, providing another way to quickly access the function.

The FaderPort 8’s streamlined workflow and support for the Mackie Control and HUI protocols make it fast and easy to control virtually any DAW. No driver installation is necessary. Users only need to plug the control surface into a USB port and take command of the mix and plug-ins.

Of course, when used with PreSonus’ own Studio One DAW, the FaderPort 8 allows things like bypassing all the plug-ins on any track with one button-press and to open the Channel Editor and enable faders to control each channel’s custom macro. Users also have access to the Control Link feature so that the Pan/Param encoder can follow the mouse, providing instant hands-on control of any parameter — or lock the encoder to the current parameter. Its also possible to use the Session Navigator to quickly scroll through the different sections in the Arranger track; and more.
