B&C Speakers New 13.5” Woofers and Coax Speakers Range

August 2 2014, 09:00
The last time audioXpress spoke with the team from B&C Speakers—at the Prolight+Sound 2014 show in Frankfurt—the Florence, Italy, company was exhibiting a variety of new products, including a brand new range of 3.5” voice coil woofers, from 12” to 15”. However, the big story, which is already causing great interest from several OEM clients, wasthe final versions of the new 14” (13.5”) woofer range, including 3” and 3.5” voice coil versions. Also new was the 14” coaxial model featuring the same motor and features from the current CXN / HCX series.

B&C Speakers has now released that series of 13.5” woofers and coax products aimed at finding a new balance in the industry. “For years we have all been stuck with either 12” or 15” options when designing speaker enclosures,” says Ron Tizzard, Director of Sales for B&C Speakers. “The new 13.5” range offers designers new options, when they need just a little more output, or just a little smaller enclosure.”

The new range is available in a variety of standard models, including 76-mm or 88-mm voice coils woofers, and a 76-mm voice coil coax that shares the same motor as B&C Speakers’s successful CXN series coax range. The 14CXN76 coax is just one of the new 13.5” models that will be shipping from B&C Speakers. Using a neodymium magnet assembly, the 14CXN76 features 800-W continuous program power capacity with 80° nominal coverage and a 45 to 18,000 Hz frequency response with 100 dB sensitivity.

The woofers include the 14” 14NDL76 and 14NDL88 models.
The 14NDL76 features a 1000-W continuous program power capacity with a frequency response from 40 to 3,000 Hz and 99 dB sensitivity. It uses a 76 mm (3”) copper voice coil and a light yet powerful motor assembly with an aluminum demodulating ring allowing for a low distortion figure.

The 14NDL88 woofer features a 1400-W continuous program power capacity also responding from 45 to 30 kHz and 99 dB sensitivity. It uses a 88 mm (3.5”) aluminum voice coil also with an aluminum demodulating ring.

Other new products
Other new additions to B&C Speakers high-frequency range include the compact new DE110. This high-performance, small diameter driver features a 36-mm diaphragm, and should be perfect for application in compact, multi-driver waveguide applications. Also new are the DE550 (1” exit) and DE554 (1.4” exit). These new 50-mm diaphragm high frequency drivers offer excellent value and performance as large diaphragm 1” exit, or small diaphragm 1.4” exit alternatives.

The new B&C Speakers DE880TN is a compact, neodymium high-frequency driver, featuring a robust titanium diaphragm that incorporates next generation surround geometry, and a brand new, optimized phase plug. Significant research has yielded a new coil former that solidifies the diaphragm with negligible increase in mass. The result is significantly improved high frequency linearity and reduced distortion. B&C Speakers recommends it as an exit solution for two-way point source enclosures, or for use on a waveguide, for multi-driver line array systems.

Another new B&C Speakers product was the 8NDL64 8“ woofer, incorporating a 2.5” copper voice coil, featuring a robust 350-W nominal power rating, which is 70% more than B&C Speakers’s typical 2” voice coil woofers. The double roll surround design also uses a shorting copper cap for extended high-frequency performance and a ventilated voice coil gap for reduced power compression. With low distortion, a well-behaved frequency response from 80 to 4,000 Hz, and very respectable 97 dB sensitivity, the neodymium magnet 8NDL64 is a versatile addition to the B&C Speakers line for point source and line array applications.
