KRK Announces Two New ROKIT Generation 3 Powered Studio Monitors

October 13 2015, 04:00

KRK Systems, a division of Gibson Brands, claims to be the #1 brand globally in studio monitors and its affordable ROKIT powered models certainly have contributed for that claim. KRK now introduced two new Generation 3 ROKIT powered studio monitors, all featuring the same carefully designed cabinet shape, including the ROKIT 4, the smallest speaker in the line, and the ROKIT 10-3 Three-Way, which offers midfield monitor performance and a larger sound.

KRK Systems, part of Gibson Pro Audio, expanded its popular ROKIT G3 (Generation 3) powered studio monitor line with two new models, complementing the already available three models, featuring 5, 6 and 8-inch woofers. Both the new and existing models feature cabinets with rounded edges to reduce distortion from diffraction, low-resonance enclosures for minimized distortion and colorization and front firing ports for low-frequency extension while reducing boundary coupling.

The new ROKIT 4 powered studio monitor is now the smallest in the range. Ideal for musicians on the go, desktop audio, tight spaces, and mobile setups, these tiny monitors translate the power, quality, and performance of KRK’s larger monitors into a compact, portable format. Apart from the smaller size, the ROKIT 4 monitor’s engineering enhancements are made to the same exacting specifications as all of KRK’s Generation 3 speaker line.

The ROKIT 4 G3 design focuses on the accurate, tight bass extension, using a 4” woofer with glass-Aramid composite cone, which preserves transient response yet moves plenty of air to create satisfying bass. The 1” soft-dome tweeter reproduces highs smoothly up to 35 kHz, without sounding too harsh. Each speaker has its own analog, Class A/B amplifier.

As with all Generation 3 ROKIT studio monitors, the ROKIT 4 has both high and low-frequency level controls along with balanced XLR, TRS, and unbalanced RCA inputs. This all adds up to a flexible studio monitor with accurate, defined sound which is intended to faithfully reproduce music and accurately translate mixes when played over other systems.

According to Gibson Pro Audio Senior Product Marketing Manager Andrew Beard, “Music professionals have asked us to make a quality, compact studio monitor that could easily be taken anywhere. Our answer is the new ROKIT 4, which has everything that makes the ROKIT series great—just smaller. This series also has color options with the mobile and home studio in mind: original black, white, and silver.”

KRK ROKIT 10-3 Three-Way
Also announced as part of KRK’s ROKIT Generation 3 is the new ROKIT 10-3 three-way powered monitor. Designed to fill even the biggest studio control room, post-production suite, or mastering facility with rich, detailed sound, the ROKIT 10-3 includes all the features of KRK’s ROKIT Generation 3 series, as well as new voicing technology based on feedback from recording professionals.

The 10” woofer is made of lightweight, glass-Aramid composite material to preserve transient response and retain clarity while delivering bass extension down to 25 Hz. The 4” midrange driver accounts for the detailed mids, while the 1” soft-dome tweeter ensures accuracy by offering high-frequency response up to 30 kHz. Each is driven by an analog, Class A/B amplifier with a total power rating of 148 watts for plenty of headroom and the ability to produce up to 110 dB SPL. Balanced XLR, TRS, and unbalanced RCA jacks provide universal connectivity, while high- and low-frequency trims accommodate personal listening tastes or tweak the overall response to match particular room acoustics.

As Andrew Beard explains, “what makes the ROKIT 10-3 G3 unique is that it provides midfield features and performance at a nearfield monitor price, and incorporates the refinements that have made the Generation 3 ROKIT line so popular. With the 10-3, KRK has answered the needs of professionals who want speakers that don’t just sound good, but sound right.”
