Linear Audio Volume 7—More Innovative and Thought-Provoking Articles!

June 27 2014, 13:20
We are pleased to confirm that another issue of the Linear Audio “bookzine” series is available in our European and US webshops.

Compiled and published by Jan Didden, who is also the Technical Editor for audioXpress (part of the Elektor International Media network of publications), this series of books reflect the efforts of a retired engineer, audio hobbyist, and serious audio electronics enthusiast in search of high-quality technical audio content. Published since 2010, the Linear Audio series of bookzines aims to help spread technical audio information and knowledge in printed format.

Volume 7 begins with a guest editorial by Joachim Gerhard who documents, from a personal view, his year-long adventure through listening space to end up with the G-pole speaker. This edition also welcomes several new authors: Barrie Gilbert contributes the first part of several, starting with his explanation of how to use simulation for design in an intelligent way. Malcolm Hawksford draws on many years of teaching to provide an overview of equalization in audio. Giovanni Stochino reviews the results of many years of research covering different error correction topologies and discussing their pros and cons.

Several circuit design articles discuss advanced power amplifiers (David Zan), a simple yet effective low noise measurement amplifier (Burkhard Vogel), and a hybrid phono preamp (Stuart Yaniger). George Ntanavaras went on a quest for the ideal speaker enclosure shape for surround use and came up with the Prisma loudspeaker.

Volume 7 also features two reviews: Marcel van de Gevel read Morgan Jones’s 2nd edition of Building Valve Amplifiers, and Stuart Yaniger and Jan Didden reviewed the Smyth Research Realiser A8, a ‘listening room/speaker virtualiser’.

And in his column, Stan Curtis throws down a gauntlet with a possible way to explain (and cure) audible differences between different implementations of the same circuit. If you have an idea on how to verify his solution in a controlled way, let us know – click here!

There is also some additional info in the Letters and Articles section that you may want to check.
Happy readings!
