Pronto and Peel Turn iPhone into a Smart Universal Remote for Home Entertainment Systems

December 18 2014, 04:00
Launching at the 2015 International Consumer Show, at the Philips Home Control booth, the latest Pronto device for connected home entertainment, together with the Peel Smart Remote app, turns any iPhone into a personalized universal remote control, completely changing the way viewers consume entertainment. Pronto allows control of entertainment devices, TVs, set-top boxes, DVDs and Blu-ray players, all from the iPhone.

Not only the solution allows to centralize control of television entertainment, it also personalizes it using the free Peel Smart Remote app. Peel offers customized viewing recommendations based on the users interests and viewing habits, placing live TV, the TV Guide, DVR and streaming media all at the user’s fingertips. The Peel app even sends reminders regarding all favorite programs.

Together, Pronto and Peel offer both universal control and personalization via one simple entertainment hub with easy set up. The compact Pronto device uses Bluetooth Smart to connect with the iPhone and infrared to connect with other devices, while the optional IR extension cable allows users to store multiple entertainment devices in a cabinet and still control the TV, keeping the complete entertainment center clutter-free with boxes and cables out of sight.

After pairing the iPhone to Pronto, the users are able to browse the Peel app to check the TV guide service before even turning on the TV. The app will show what’s airing in real-time, what is available to watch later and even popular shows people are discussing on social media. The app also allows defining favorite channels, genres and shows to create a personalized TV guide and switch to a DVR, home-server or a Blu-ray if desired.

Pronto with Peel is optimized to control more than 3,000 entertainment devices, including all major TV brands such as Samsung, LG, Sony, Philips, Vizio, Panasonic and Toshiba. For users with several entertainment areas at home, the app allows setting up a second existing Pronto remote device for personalized control from anywhere in the house.

The Pronto device uses 4 AA alkaline batteries which will last for approximately one year. Pronto will launch at this year’s 2015 International CES in Las Vegas in the Philips Home Control booth (South Hall #22010) and will be available for purchase late January.

Peel redefines the smart home control experience by seamlessly connecting users via their mobile devices and social media with personalized TV, cable and streamed content recommendations, with more than 100 million activated users in 200 countries.
