HiFiBerry Partners with Bang & Olufsen on New BeoCreate Board

HiFiBerry, the Swiss developer of Digital to Analog Converter components for DIY, OEM, and integrators announced a new interesting solution to provide advanced capabilities for speakers, developed in partnership with Bang & Olufsen. HiFiBerry's new BeoCreate board was designed to give a new lease on life to legacy audio speakers, like the popular BeoVox CX50 and CX100, "up-cycling" them to be compatible with the best of today's wireless and Internet-connected technology.

HiFiBerry develops increasingly popular DAC/Digi/Amp products, that leverage all the power of Raspberry Pi open hardware platforms. Available in different versions, all HiFiBerry solutions are easy to build high-quality and affordable audio systems, available online through the company's own website, and distributed in more than 90 countries. The company provides not only hardware but also pre-configured software solutions for several use cases.

Now, HiFiBerry decided to offer a solution to give a new lease of life into vintage B&O BeoVox speakers, upgrading them with wireless capabilities. The BeoCreate board provides advanced capabilities, including up to 25W amplification, capable of driving a pair of 4 Ohm speakers, fully controllable from the Raspberry Pi. The solution provides a fully digital sound path for optimal audio performance, supports 44.1kHz and 48kHz sample rates, and already provides digital-to-analog conversion. It connects directly to the Raspberry Pi A+/B+/2B/3B boards, with no additional cables needed. Only one 12-18V external power supply is needed for the complete solution.

When paired with a Raspberry Pi, the Beocreate board allows exploring the full potential of the on-board Digital Signal Processing, enabling users to tailor the output to suit their listening preferences or enable room correction and act as a wireless streaming target to make 'smart speakers' from legacy equipment. The board can also be used as a standalone amplifier when attached via TOSLink - the board contains a TOSLink input and output - to an existing signal source for users who prefer a simpler or more cost-conscious solution.

When used with the Raspberry Pi, the user can use the DSP board with any software of their given choice. The solution offers a powerful digital signal processor that can be directly programmed by the user from any PC using Analog Devices SigmaStudio. It facilitates wireless DSP programming (Ethernet, WiFi) and also offers a 4-channel 24bit/192kHz DAC and a 4-channel amplifier (2x30W + 2x60W). Power is supplied by a single external 12-24V source.

The HiFiBerry dedicated Beocreate website provides a detailed step-by-step guide of how to convert BeoVox legacy speakers with the new Beocreate board. Priced at a very affordable $190 MSRP, orders are available online in North America at www.hifiberry.us, or in the EU at: www.hifiberry.com.
