Master & Dynamic Announces MW50 Wireless On-Ear Headphones with Custom Beryllium Drivers

November 2 2016, 04:00
Lifestyle headphone brand, Master & Dynamic announced its latest wireless headphones, featuring custom beryllium drivers. According to the New York City-based company, the new MW50 Wireless On-Ear Headphones were designed as a portable alternative made to last, combining the finest materials and rich, warm sound, with comfortable ear cups that fold flat. The “form-meets-function” exposed all-aluminum antenna provides best-in-class Bluetooth signal range, while the new design is one-third lighter than the company’s previous MW60 model.

The company says the MW50s are “the perfect wireless headphones for home, office or travel” and a demonstration of its commitment to “elevated design and technical sophistication”, on a new compact and lighter model. The new supra-aural on-ear headphones take several cues from the brand’s growing family of products while establishing a distinctive style. Signature Master & Dynamic design elements, including a minimal industrial aesthetic, precision details, and tactile components are apparent throughout. While most wireless headphones trade metal for plastic, the MW50s combine patent-pending stainless steel with machined all-aluminum antenna for uncompromised durability, and improved signal range.

Using updated low-power Bluetooth 4.1 with Qualcomm’s aptX high quality audio technology, the new MW50 Wireless On-Ear Headphones accommodate multi-point connection, allowing connectivity to two devices at once for a smooth transition from phone to tablet or computer. They can even be used if the sixteen-hour lithium ion rechargeable battery is depleted, using the included woven cable to connect directly in passive mode to an audio device via 3.5mm jack.

Like all Master & Dynamic headphones, the MW50s are made with the highest quality materials, from the heavy grain cowhide leather headband to the memory foam ear pads, which are wrapped in soft lambskin leather and removable for cleaning. Custom 40mm beryllium drivers produce a unique high-quality sound, while a dual microphone array provides increased noise rejection and clear callings. Tactile controls are ergonomically positioned on the ear cups, allowing for effortless media control toggling.

The specifications are similar to the MW60, a more expensive circum-aural design using larger (45mm) neodymium drivers. Still, for those users in search of a portable alternative in a over-ear model, the new 40 mm Beryllium high-performance drivers, compare favorably in terms of extended frequency response, while the memory foam ear pads provide superior comfort and breathability.

The new Master & Dynamic MW50 wireless headphones are available in both silver/black and silver/brown and can be purchased for $449. They ship with a USB-C charging cable, a 1.25m standard 3.5mm audio cable, canvas headphone pouch and leather cable box.
