According to Peerless by Tymphany, this 10", 6 Ohm, member of the new SDF product family features a newly tooled aluminum frame, built for extra rigidity and heat dissipation along with a vented paper cone for reduced air compression. The motor features a strong ferrite magnet with bump T yoke, supporting high excursion, and aluminium shorting rings and pole extenders, lowering and linearizing the inductance of the overhung voice coil. The paper cone is vented under the dust cap, to reduce air compression. The suspension system of the new SDF-250F75PR01-06 woofer also features a low-creep rubber surround, and a optimized spider, ensuring long-term reliability under high power conditions.
This first 10" member of the SDF family is rated at 300 W (IEC 268-5 18.1) with a 86.6 dB sensitivity @ 1W/1m ,4.39 Ω DC resistance (±5.0%), and 33.5 Hz resonant frequency (15%). Maximum linear excursion is 12.6 mm with a minimum impedance of 4.92 Ω (±7.5%).
According to Tymphany, the new SDF woofer series will be soon expanded with two new models, using the same materials. Coming Fall 2017 are two more models:
SDF-300F75PR01-06 – 12”, 6 ohm
SDF-375F75PR03-06 – 15”, 6 ohm
"When designing these woofers, we wanted to build on the success of the XXLS product family," says George Bullimore, Director of UK Design Centre at Tymphany. "The 3" voice coil enables more control and better power handling, while the increased Xmax and maximum excursion capability help to improve sound quality and reliability."
Peerless was founded in Denmark in 1926. Vifa, also founded in Denmark, merged with Peerless in 2000 to form Danish Sound Technology (DST). In 2005 Tymphany acquired Danish Sound Technology (DST) along with the original Peerless, Vifa, and Scan-Speak brands, engineering, products, and technology. Scan-Speak was sold to Eastern Technologies Holding Limited (“KYET”) in 2014. Tymphany unified its remaining brands under a single brand name: Peerless by Tymphany.
