PreSonus Announces Major StudioLive Series III Mixers Update with Support for New AVB-Networked Personal Monitor Mixer and Stageboxes

August 13 2018, 06:25
PreSonus is now shipping its EarMix 16M 16-channel personal monitor mixer and NSB 16.8 and NSB 8.8 stageboxes, part of PreSonus’ fast-growing ecosystem of AVB-networked products, designed to work seamlessly with the PreSonus StudioLive Series III family of mixers. On a related announcement, PreSonus has released version 1.9 firmware for its StudioLive Series III digital consoles and rack mixers, including some extra free software plug-ins.

The 1.9 firmware update for the PreSonus StudioLive Series III digital consoles and rack mixers includes enhanced support for PreSonus AVB networked products, including the new EarMix 16M and NSB-series stage boxes, as well as improving mixer performance. PreSonus also announced that for a limited time, users of StudioLive Series III consoles and rack mixers can download the company’s Vintage Channel Strips Bundle of Fat Channel plug-ins for free. The Vintage Channel Strips Bundle comprises four meticulously crafted emulations of highly regarded vintage audio processors: Classic Compressor, Vintage 3-Band EQ, Tube P1B Compressor, and Tube Midrange EQ.

Utilizing state-of-the-art State Space Modeling technology, engineers at PreSonus Software Ltd. in Hamburg, Germany, closely modeled the sound and response of the original hardware processors, including every circuit, harmonic, and nuance. These plug-ins load in a StudioLive Series III console or rack mixer’s Fat Channel, expanding the Fat Channel processor library much like plug-ins do in a DAW. Each plug-in comes in both StudioLive Series III format and Studio One format so you can use them in both mixer and DAW Fat Channels. There are no DSP limitations on the number of plug-in instances, and the plug-ins can be used on every input channel.

AVB-Networked Personal Monitor Mixer and Stageboxes
PreSonus is now shipping its latest EarMix 16M 16-channel personal monitor mixer and NSB 16.8 and NSB 8.8 stageboxes. The PreSonus EarMix 16M 16-channel AVB-networked personal monitor mixer provides a high-quality, expandable, networked monitoring solution for stage, installed sound systems, and studio recording. Each EarMix 16M accepts 16 mono channels of input via AVB networking — and users can network multiple units with a StudioLive Series III mixer.

EarMix 16M features a loud, clear headphone amplifier that can drive low-impedance devices such as professional-caliber in-ear-monitors. Each unit can create its own custom mix, and users can apply limiting and three-band EQ with sweepable midrange frequency to each channel, as well as to the main mix. Once they’ve perfected a set of monitor mixes, they can save the whole scene to internal memory. Up to 16 mix scenes can be stored and recalled locally.

The EarMix 16M can be powered with its included external power supply but also works with Power over Ethernet (PoE), which enables network cables to carry electrical power to compatible devices. A pair of AVB jacks enable to chain multiple EarMix 16Ms while also connecting to a StudioLive Series III mixer. Users can expand even further by chaining EarMix 16Ms from multiple AVB switches, such as the PreSonus SW5E. Once they have created an AVB network, users can quickly and easily set up EarMix 16M routings from a networked StudioLive Series III console or using free PreSonus UC Surface control software for Mac, Windows, iPad, and Android.

PreSonus’ NSB 16.8 and 8.8 AVB-networked stage boxes deliver signals from stage to console over a lightweight CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet cable. All inputs feature gain compensation for shared input scenarios, a feature typically only found on much more expensive systems. The NSB series’ inputs, preamps, phantom power, and gain compensation can be remote controlled from a networked Series III console or from free PreSonus UC Surface touch-control software.

The 16x8 NSB 16.8 offers 16 locking combo mic/line inputs equipped with PreSonus’ remote-controlled, Class A solid-state XMAX preamps. The 8x8 NSB 8.8 offers eight of these mic/line inputs. Both models provide eight outputs with locking XLR jacks. A built-in two-port AVB switch allows daisy-chaining multiple units, or using the PreSonus SW5E AVB switch to support larger shows and installations.

These products are available now at the following street prices (U.S.): EarMix 16M $399.95; NSB 16.8 $799.95; and NSB 8.8 $599.95.
