Rigado Edge Connectivity Tool Suite Supports Bluetooth 5

November 29 2017, 02:50
Rigado has announced its Edge Connectivity Suite with full support for Bluetooth 5. Designed for large-scale commercial connected deployments, Rigado’s Edge Connectivity solution is comprised of Bluetooth 5 end-device modules and the Vesta IoT Gateway, which includes cloud-based tools for secure deployment and updating. The solution is based on Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF52840 Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) advanced multiprotocol System-on-Chip (SoC).

Specifically designed for companies who need to develop, deploy and manage a large number of connected devices and gateways, the Rigado Edge Connectivity Suite provides seamless integration between IoT devices and the Cloud.

The Edge Connectivity Suite actively addresses a growing need for low-power wireless within commercial IoT applications like asset tracking, smart lighting and connected retail and hospitality. Moreover, the suite addresses the market need for Edge Computing at scale, paving a secure and cost-effective road for data from device-to-cloud, with support for interoperability and security demands.

The company’s Bluetooth 5-enabled solutions include fully Bluetooth 5 enabled Rigado modules with mesh networking capabilities, and Rigado Vesta gateways to manage connectivity to end devices and ensure data reaches public and private cloud services. They also support custom edge applications to process data and offer local device control. Flexible wireless options and customizability mean that companies can optimize their gateway for cost-effective enterprise deployment. The complete solution also features DeviceOps cloud-based tools for secure deployment and updating in the field.

Rigado’s Edge Connectivity Suite is based on Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF52840 Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) advanced multiprotocol System-on-Chip (SoC). Nordic’s nRF52840, was the first full Bluetooth 5 SoC to arrive on the market, and enables Rigado’s solutions to take full advantage of new Bluetooth 5 features like long-range mode, fast (2 Mbit) data transfer rate, and extended advertising capabilities. This means that the nRF52 Series-powered Vesta IoT Gateway is an even more full-featured, cost-effective edge router to connect wireless devices, run edge applications, and integrate with cloud services. And, the BMD-340 module can offer full mesh networking capabilities which are ideal for applications such as smart lighting or asset tracking.

To help companies rapidly prototype their commercial Bluetooth 5 IoT solutions, Nordic and Rigado have also partnered to create the Rigado IoT Development Kit (DK), which combines the Vesta IoT Gateway with Nordic’s Thingy:52 sensor. The Rigado IoT DK includes sample software that makes it easy to capture sensor information from the Nordic Thingy:52 and analyze and display it through Rigado’s Gateway Web app, or stream sensor data to Amazon Web Services where it is in turn visualized in a Cloud-based dashboard.
