Shinola Introduces Canfield Headphone Collection

November 20 2017, 03:25
The Detroit-based design and manufacturing brand Shinola announced the introduction of a new range of headphones adding to the company's Shinola Audio range of products, which already includes the gorgeous Runwell Turntable, and Bookshelf Speakers. The new Shinola Canfield Headphone Collection includes four new models that are distinctive in every detail, including two in-ear models tuned in partnership with Campfire Audio.

Two years in the making, Shinola’s in-house team carefully tuned and engineered the Canfield Collection with the same rigor and craftsmanship the company employs across its growing number of product categories. Developed with the same high-quality materials, finishes, and processes Shinola uses to make watches, the new headphones all have a rich, warm, and expansive sound signature - "an approach to personal listening that’s anything but disposable," the brand states.

“This introduction is special,” says Shinola’s founder, Tom Kartsotis. “It speaks to our love of music and craft and it speaks to the soul of Detroit. It is rare that one product can capture and transmit this much emotion and be so much fun to share. People always smile when they hold the headphones, feel the quality and then listen. It has taken us a while to make it feel right, to make the steel and leather details and the sound all come together. We are so proud of this effort from our Audio team. Their tireless efforts have created a product that personifies what Shinola has come to stand for.”

The new collection will consist of four styles: The Canfield Over-Ear, The Canfield On-Ear, The Canfield Pro In-Ear Monitor, and The Canfield In-Ear Monitor. All are available from Shinola stores, online, and at select domestic retailers.

The Canfield Over-Ear closed-back, circumaural headphones use a 50-mm dynamic driver with a neutral frequency response, featuring stainless steel components, interchangeable lambskin ear cushions, a Top Grain leather headband, and an in-line microphone. They are available in black and cognac, and retail for $650 and $595, respectively.

The Canfield On-Ear Headphones are similarly designed closed-back, supra-aural models, featuring a 40mm dynamic driver, stainless steel components, interchangeable lambskin ear cushions, a Top Grain leather headband, and an in-line microphone. They are available in black and cognac, retailing for $550 and $495, respectively.

The two Canfield in-ear models have been tuned in partnership with Campfire Audio out of Portland, Oregon. The Canfield Pro In-Ear Monitors are powered by a quad balanced armature receiver and crafted to be endlessly comfortable, retailing for $495. The Canfield In-Ear Monitors were designed to sound great using an 8.5mm beryllium dynamic driver, and be comfortable for hours of use. Featuring memory foam and silicone ear tips, they retail for $195 and, like the Pro In-Ear monitors will be available from December 2017.
