Sound Devices Expands Astral Wireless Products for Live Sound Markets

Sound Devices, now part of the Audiotonix group, has been a major player in field recording and location sound for 25 years. The latest products that Sound Devices launched in its wireless Astral range have features that serve not only film and television applications but propel the company into the global live sound market. Group One Limited will now carry the distribution of those live sound products in the United States.

Sound Devices has announced a new expanded range of compact true diversity digital wireless audio/microphone receivers for professional production applications, introducing a sophisticated design with full color displays and the most current technology. The new A20-Nexus compact 8, 12 or 16 channel, true diversity digital wireless receivers with SpectraBand offers an unprecedented tuning range and superior RF filtering for worldwide usage, expanding Sound Devices' Astral Series of wireless transmitters and receivers.

Reedsburg, Wisconsin-based Sound Devices announced the recent acquisition of Audio Limited, the UK manufacturer and developer of high-performance wireless microphone systems. Audio Ltd., now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sound Devices, will continue to operate out of its Watford, UK offices with Kishore Patel and Lee Stone continuing as managing director and technical director, respectively.

Sound Devices introduced its next generation 12-input, 16-track portable mixer/recorder. The new 688 is the center of an extensible mixing and recording system incorporating MixAssist, Sound Devices automatic mixing technology. The 688 accepts the new SL-6 SuperSlot powering and wireless accessory and simplifies power distribution and interconnection.
