Test Bench: The MD60N-6 2.5" Dome Midrange from the SB Acoustics Satori Line

This is a Test Bench of one of the most intriguing high-frequency drivers from SB Acoustics' high-end Satori line, the MD60N-6 2.5" dome midrange. This design by Danesian Audio of Denmark, is a soft dome midrange that features a non-resonant coated cloth, and a large neodymium ring magnet with a dynamic dome stabilizer and flow resistor. There is also an injection-molded back-closed transmission line enclosure, filled with Thinsulate damping, mounted directly on the back side, covering its entire surface. For this edition of Vance Dickason's Test Bench, the characterization centers on the brand new NERO-6MRN150D pro audio 6.5" midrange from SB Audience, the recently announced brand from Sinar Baja Electric (SB Acoustics). The new NERO-6MRN150D features a proprietary four-spoke-cast aluminum frame with efficient cooling, a curvilinear paper/graphite composite cone and large convex paper dust cap. The motor design combines a FEA-designed neodymium ring magnet and 49.5mm diameter voice coil wound with round CCAW on a non-conducting glass fiber former. This Test Bench characterizes the Bianco 44CD-K from SB Audience, a new brand from SB Acoustics. The FEA-optimized ferrite compression driver arrived with its H-250 90° × 90° exponential horn. The SB Audience 44CD-K features a 44 mm (1.75”) diameter voice coil wound with round copper wire on a high-temperature Kapton non-conducting former, driving a single piece Kapton diaphragm and surround. In this Test Bench we will be looking at the 29 mm TW29DN-B cloth dome tweeter from the SB Acoustics Satori line of high-end devices. This new TW29DN-B-8 SB Satori tweeter is a wide surround format-type similar to the original Vifa DX tweeter, or the current Scan-Speak D2604 or D2607. Features include a 29 mm wide surround beryllium diaphragm sourced from Materion, a non-reflective cast-aluminum rear cavity, a two-part aluminum faceplate with integrated mechanical decoupling, dual balanced compression chambers, a high-saturation neodymium ring type motor magnet with a T-shaped pole and dual copper cap shorting rings.
