Advanced Engineering Simulation Software

Simulation software for speaker design has been around since the 1970s. With the introduction of the IBM PC and DOS operating system in the early 1980s, Thiele-Small (T-S) simulation software for enclosure design became a must-have for speaker system designers. For the most sophisticated design efforts, there are now magnetic circuit design software and finite element analysis (FEA) cone and thermal prediction simulation software. Audio Precision introduced a series of calibrated measurement microphones to its portfolio, creating a robust solution for end-to-end testing of electro-acoustic components, products and systems. This expansion of Audio Precision's electro-acoustic test offering includes free-field, pre-polarized microphones, combining mic capsules with low-noise preamplifiers, an ideal complement to the APx line of audio analyzers, software and accessories.

Audio Precision announced its new APx1701 Transducer Test Interface. The system integrates instrument-grade amplifiers and microphone power supplies for designers and production test engineers seeking clear insight into the behavior of their electro-acoustic devices. The new APx1701 raises the performance bar for electro-acoustic tests, introduces low-noise, low-distortion and flat-response accessory for loudspeaker, headphone and microphone measurements.

Audio Precision announced the availability of version 4.2 of their APx500 audio test software, as well as a new PDM module with advanced capabilities. AP’s latest software release delivers a series of new features focused on electro-acoustic and production test environments. The new software and Advanced PDM Module will be shown at the 139th AES Convention in New York.

Christopher J. Struck, Founder, CEO, and Chief Scientist of CJS Labs, has been appointed Standards Director of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) effective 22 May 2015. As Standards Director, Struck will serve as Chair of the ASA Committee on Standards and is responsible for providing leadership and guidance for the Society’s program supporting the development of acoustical standards.

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) will hold its 59th International Conference, focusing on Sound Reinforcement Engineering and Technology, on July 15-17, 2015, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. This is the first AES International Conference to focus on Sound Reinforcement in over 25 years.
