NFC Forum Wireless Charging Specification 2.0 Allows Charging TWS Earbuds From Smartphones

The NFC Forum latest Wireless Charging Technical Specification 2.0 allows for wireless charging by enabling a single antenna in an NFC-enabled device to manage both communications between the devices and charging. Users who need to charge low-power devices such as wireless earbuds, digital stylus pens, fitness trackers, and other small consumer products can now do so from NFC-enabled smartphones and other devices, just by placing both devices directly in contact.

DSP Concepts announced it has added delResearch's AirModem to the Audio Weaver feature set. AirModem offers a secure wireless alternative to Bluetooth and allows for two-way data transfer between phones, computers, and other connected devices without the need for specialized hardware: just speakers and microphones. The NFC Forum and the Thread Group announced that they have formed an official partnership by signing a liaison agreement. The goal of the agreement is to provide a new Internet of Things (IoT) user interface experience (UX) by using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology when installing and configuring a device to a Thread network. The organizations plan to collaborate on how NFC technology can be deployed as part of the IoT device installation, configuration and commissioning process on a Thread network.

The NFC Forum announced the completion, publication and availability of its 2017 Technical Specification Release with specifications that will impact global mobile device interoperability, public transport applications and NFC tag use for consumers and businesses. The 21 specifications in the release feature the latest and greatest NFC technology and usability upgrades.

Oticon will showcase Oticon Opn at 2017 CES. Oticon Opn is the world’s first hearing aid to connect to the Internet via the IFTTT network and was honored with 2017 CES Innovations Awards in two categories – Tech for a Better World and Wearable Technologies. STMicroelectronics announced that it has acquired ams’ assets related to NFC1 and RFID2 reader business. The acquisition of IP, technologies, products and business strengthens ST’s secure microcontroller solutions embedding NFC connectivity. New products already integrating this technology are sampling now to ST customers and covering a broad range of applications such as next-generation mobile and Internet of Things devices, complementing ST’s NFC/RFID EEPROM tag offering.
