Peter D’Antonio Honored with Wallace Clement Sabine Medal Award from Acoustical Society of America

REDIacoustics co-founder and Director of Research Dr. Peter D’Antonio has been awarded the Wallace Clement Sabine Medal by the Acoustical Society of America [ASA] recognizing outstanding contributions to the knowledge of architectural acoustics. ASA highlights Peter D’Antonio's contributions to the theory, design and application of acoustic diffusers. The award will be presented at the spring 2024 ASA meeting to be held in Ottawa, Canada.

The August 2022 issue of audioXpress, Acoustics Focus, gives a unique overview of market trends in acoustical products, with great articles on Acoustic Diffusion, Distributed Subwoofers for Room Modes, and Reverberation Control and Measurement. Michel Nieuwenhuizen proposes an improved microphone preamp for condenser microphones, Aren van Waarde builds a minimalist preamp using only discrete transistors, and Ethan Winer shares circuits for VCA and VCF analog synthesizer modules.

Output, the LA-based company that evolved from music creation software tools into studio furniture and stands, and surprised with its Frontier nearfield active studio monitors designed by Barefoot Sound, has also launched a modular acoustic panel system. The new Eco Acoustic Panels expand Output's studio hardware catalog and offer a complete high performance, open acoustic treatment system, designed in collaboration with De-Fi Systems.

Highly specialized acoustic shells designed by Portuguese company JOCAVI Acoustic Panels have been commissioned for use by the prestigious Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and premiered in a recent concert of Beethoven's Eroica in the historical Republic Hall, part of the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, Malta. The WoodFoil Acoustic Shell portable panels have dramatically improved sound diffusion during the performance with results praised by the orchestra and the public.

Acoustic solutions specialist Vicoustic continues to expand its portfolio. Following the recent release of a number of new acoustics products for building and construction applications, Vicoustic now announced the release of their VicTotem configurable acoustic totem, combining absorption, diffusion and bass trap in a single modular structure. VicTotem combines VicPET Wool, Vicycle Microsuede Fabric, and Wood materials, available in a series of modules with multiple finishes and colors.

Acoustical treatment specialist Auralex Acoustics is now shipping enhanced “v2” models of the popular Sustain Bamboo Sound Diffusors. The new and improved design is based on customer input and extensive testing, now with sharper angles and updated construction.
