808 Audio Launches Alexa Voice Service Speaker with Multi-Room Capabilities

808 Audio, a Voxx International brand, announced availability of its new XL-V speaker featuring Alexa capabilities. Signaling that smart speakers don't necessarily need to come from the voice assistant own brands, such as Amazon, 808 Audio's new XL-V speaker is in fact quite similar to the original Amazon Echo, with a different speaker design and driver arrangement, in a metal packaging that the company says delivers improved quality audio.

808 Audio, a fast growing lifestyle audio brand from Voxx, released the XL-V as its first venture into the smart home market, expanding its line of portable speakers and headphones now also to a multiroom home product with a voice interface, benefiting from Amazon's own Alexa Voice Service (AVS) Multi-Room Music SDK, and the Connected Speaker APIs.

The 808 Audio XL-V integrates Amazon’s AVS to provide information, answer questions, play music, read the news, check sports scores or the weather and more. Users just have to say the name of a song, artist or genre they want to hear, to access the streaming directly over WiFi from Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, Amazon Music and more services. Users can also stream any audio content wirelessly from their smartphone or tablet directly through the XL-V.

The XL-V comes fully equipped with multi-room audio allowing users to pair additional speakers in other parts of the home and stream music everywhere at the same time. This, coupled with 808 Audio’s own speaker design, including two symmetric 1.5" outward facing full-range drivers and a reflex port to enhance the bass response, will fill any room with stereo sound and delivers crisp vocals and improved dynamic bass response. Additionally, 808 Audio’s XL-V includes an aux input to connect an external digital player and other wired sources.

Like all Alexa compatible speakers, the XL-V allows users to explore thousands of additional Alexa Skills, available through the dedicated app, including using voice control with all sorts of compatible Smart Home solutions. Alexa automatically updates its capabilities and gradually adapts to the user's personal preferences.

The 808 Audio XL-V will be available in November 2017 for $129.99 at Amazon, Crutchfield and Frys, as well as on 808audio.com. The affordable price point is indicative of the brand's strategy to position all its products at an entry-level segment, and very significant when compared with other recently announced voice-enabled speakers.
