Founded in 1985 in Rockville, MD, Scantek, began as a joint venture between Norwegian Electronics AS (Norsonic) and Richard J. Peppin. Scantek’s mission was to provide high-end instrumentation and engineering solutions to complex noise and vibration problems. In the early 1990s, Scantek expanded its business services into rental instrumentation and calibration. In 2000, Scantek commissioned the Scantek Calibration Laboratory (SCL), which achieved National Voluntary laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) accreditation in 2003.

The Scantek Calibration Laboratory is an ISO 17025: 2005 and ANSI/NCSL Z-540-1: 1994 accredited facility, able to offer high-quality and prompt periodic calibration of any brand of sound and vibration instrumentation, from microphones and acoustical calibrators, sound level meters and analyzers, tapping machines, accelerometers and vibration meters to vibration calibrators.

Scantek has all necessary test equipment and parts to service and repair all the previously mentioned systems and Scantek engineering staff provides consulting in many aspects of acoustics, vibration, and instrumentation including training in basic, intermediate, and advanced acoustics and noise control.

Throughout its history, Scantek also has served as a distributor for multiple internationally recognized manufacturers of sound and vibration instrumentation and predictive software. Currently, Scantek distributes ACO Pacific solutions, the full range of Rion sound level meters, Cirrus Research’s noise measurement instruments, CVK Hand and Arm vibration measurement systems, and SoundEar noise alert and monitoring systems.

Scantek also distributes DataKustik solutions, one of the leading manufacturers of software for emission protection, MMF’s vibration measurement solutions, Olive Tree Lab Terrain's acoustics software application, and Sound of Numbers' sound insulation prediction software, apart from offering a professional software recording and analysis package from Delta noiseLAB.

Other solutions distributed by Scantek include the Real Acoustix Realdodec dodecahedron speaker for acoustical testing, the GTI iPad-based predictive maintenance system, Acculab reference sound power sources, Extech sound level meters and calibrators and Causal Systems Engineering’s noise control software.

As the company celebrates its 30th anniversary, and as a way to express appreciation to all of its customers, Scantek will be extending special offerings throughout its anniversary year.
