Steinway Lyngdorf announced the Model P200 surround sound processor. The Model P200 is equipped with RoomPerfect adaptive acoustics and fully digital signal processing with support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro-3D. It also has advanced HDMI switching, supports 4K and 3D video and HDCP 2.2 and even offers optional DCI-compliant cinema server inputs.

According to the Danish company, the new Model P200 is capable of handling up to 256 output channels and any of the current existing immersive surround audio formats, adding all the height and top layer elements of Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro-3D cinema-sound and compatible sources.

In terms of legacy format supports, the Model P200 also decodes     Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS ES Discrete 6.1, DTS ES Matrix 6.1, DTS 96/24, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, and DTS-HD Master Audio. It will also process sources which only offer Dolby surround, Auro-MATIC, Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Pro Logic IIz, Dolby EX, DTS Neo:6, and DTS NEO:X.

The Steinway & Sons Model P200 will not only work with these technologies but also allows for unlimited creativity in installations. At the touch of a button, the user will be able to switch between speakers placed at the positions recommended for any specific format, or have existing speakers optimized for a particular format. This is also optimized with RoomPerfect room correction. Like its predecessor the Model P1, the Model P200 surround sound processor is equipped with the most sophisticated digital processing technology for adapting the sound system to the environment. RoomPerfect allows the Model P200 to deliver a perfect surround sound experience equally well to living rooms, media rooms, and home theaters, with virtually no need to design the room acoustics around the sound system.

The new Steinway Lyngdorf flagship processor also features advanced HDMI switching capabilities and can handle up to five separate 4K video streams simultaneously, allowing routing from any HDMI input to any output with unique On Screen Display for each stream. It can also show four inputs on one screen (tiling), or split one input to be shown on four screens as one coherent video-wall.

The Model P200 is 100% digital and the full audio stream is kept entirely in the digital domain, combining fully digital processing with fully digital amplifiers to maintain full resolution of the original signal. For better reference, the digital audio inputs include 1x AES/EBU S/P-DIF, 3x S/P-DIF coaxial, 4x S/P-DIF optical and one USB audio input with support for up to 384kHz, 32bit PCM, DSD64 and DSD128. There also a standard balanced stereo analog input on XLR, 4x single ended stereo analog inputs (RCA), one multichannel single ended analog input (RCA), and one microphone input (XLR) for RoomPerfect calibration.

Increased flexibility is also easily achieved through HDBaseT connectivity, a feature set that converges uncompressed full HD digital video, audio, and 100BaseT Ethernet through a single LAN cable, allowing to run signals up to 100m/300ft. HDBaseT is currently a standard on the most popular AV systems and allows full compatibility of centralized control solutions and A/V routing systems. Multiple control options including RS232, remote web interface, IP-control, and ihiji IP management offer total control and assurance. Steinway Lyngdorf also supplies a dedicated Remote App for iOS and Android platforms.

For movie aficionados, apart from the 8 HDMI inputs, the Model P200 even offers an optional upgrade with a 16-channel DCI-compliant digital AES/EBU input for integration with digital cinema servers. Video output is available on 4x HDMI connectors and the HDBaseT Ethernet connector. There’s also trigger input and outputs, two RJ45 Ethernet LAN connector (not the HDBaseT one), two standard Type-A USB connectors and one SD card slot for storage, system software and settings.

Thinking also about energy efficiency, the Model P200 uses significantly less power and generates less heat than a traditional analog setup. Energy-efficient design automatically turns off unused amplifiers when in stereo mode, and it draws less than .5 W in stand-by.

The Model P200 is available in anodized matte black and glass finishes for $18,000 MSRP and was designed to work with amplifiers and speakers from Steinway Lyngdorf since the audio outputs are available using five Steinway Lyngdorf Digital Links. Still, there’s a standard stereo analog output for secondary audio output and one SPDIF coax digital output if by any change you get one and cannot afford to buy the rest of the installation.
