Airgain Collaborates with Quantenna on New Wi-Fi 6 Reference Design

December 20 2018, 00:10
Airgain, a leading provider of advanced antenna technologies, announced the development of a Wi-Fi 6 reference design with Quantenna Communications. The new design will enable swift development of high performance IEEE 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) devices incorporating Airgain’s Wi-Fi 6 antenna solution and Quantenna’s high-performance Wi-Fi 6 chipset, the QSR10GU-AX PLUS.

“With the increases in RF system complexity that are needed to get the most performance out of Wi-Fi 6, system designers face much longer design cycles unless they can tap into existing RF integration expertise,” says Jacob Suen, senior vice president at Airgain. “This reference design puts Quantenna’s market-leading chipset, and Airgain’s Wi-Fi 6 antenna technology together with our combined know-how of how to get the best real-world performance out of the technology. It should be a win-win for early adopters who can leverage the reference design to get to market faster and with better system performance.”

The Quantenna-based reference design leverages Quantenna’s QSR10GU-AX PLUS chipset with adaptive MIMO capability, a unique feature that enables dynamic switching between 8x8 MIMO and dual 4x4 MIMO in the 5GHz band. This feature provides end users with the best possible MIMO configuration, tailored to each individual environment. The QSR10GU-AX PLUS also supports advanced MU-MIMO and SuperTx capabilities, providing significant performance gains with both legacy and new Wi-Fi 6 clients.

“With the explosion in the number of new Wi-Fi devices, and demanding applications such as online gaming and 4K video streaming, there is an increasing demand for higher bandwidth and superior network performance, both addressed by our advanced Wi-Fi 6 products,” adds Shrinath Keskar, vice president, North America sales at Quantenna. “We have worked with the Airgain team on multiple reference designs and OTA performance for a long time. Their expertise in those areas, combined with their early adopter experience in Wi-Fi 6 antenna integration, made them the preferred choice for collaboration on this new design.”

Airgain is headquartered in San Diego, California, and maintains design and test centers in the U.S., U.K., and China. Airgain’s latest innovations, including new Wi-Fi 6 connectivity solutions, will be on display during the 2019 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), held January 8 through 11 in Las Vegas, NV. Airgain will also be displaying the Antenna Plus product portfolio in the GetWireless booth #2409 in the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.

Quantenna is showcasing a wide range of its latest innovations including Wi-Fi 6 products and solutions at CES.
