Audio-Technica’s new AT-LP5 direct-drive turntable incorporates a J-shaped tone arm outfitted with a lightweight AT-HS10 headshell and high-performance AT95EX Dual Moving Magnet stereo cartridge, created specifically for this turntable. Constructed of anti-vibration damping materials with heavy-mass metal chassis inserts, the AT-LP5 is powered by a direct-drive, high-torque motor, and features a built-in switchable phono/line preamp and USB output.

Audio-Technica announced the introduction of its AT-LP5 Direct Drive Turntable, a high-performance record player with elegant design. "Our new AT-LP5 was created to satisfy discerning audiophiles and music lovers with its exceptional sound, visual appeal and ease of use," says Crystal Griffith, Audio-Technica Marketing Manager. "The AT-LP5 conveys all the warmth, richness, depth and detail that makes listening to records such a rewarding musical experience."

The AT-LP5 embodies Audio-Technica's more than 50 years of analog playback expertise. Its direct-drive motor system provides stable playback for both 33-1/3 and 45 RPM records. A die-cast, machined and balanced aluminum platter and 5 mm damping mat are combined in a platform that has been engineered to minimize internal resonances, further contributing to the AT-LP5's ability to deliver detailed, nuanced vinyl playback from a quiet background.

The J-shaped tonearm is designed to minimize tracking error and hearkens back to the classic original Audio-Technica tonearms of the 1960s and 1970s. The hydraulically damped arm features a metal gimbal suspension system with precision bearings. It comes pre-mounted with Audio-Technica's lightweight AT-HS10 removable headshell and the new AT95EX Dual Moving Magnet cartridge, designed exclusively for the AT-LP5. The AT95EX utilizes a host of new construction materials that were chosen to deliver smooth, extended frequency response along with exceptional dynamic capability, imaging and transient response. The user can also mount the cartridge of his or her choice if desired.

The AT-LP5 provides adjustments for optimum performance including tracking force, anti-skating and vertical tracking angle. It includes a built-in switchable phono preamp, enabling the turntable to be used with a wide variety of music and home entertainment systems, powered speakers, and A/V receivers that do not have a dedicated phono input. The analog signal path has been optimized for sonic purity with high-quality internal wiring gold-plated headshell connectors, a highly stable internal power supply and other refinements.

The AT-LP5's USB output and included software make it easy to transfer records to digital music files for listening anywhere. Its adjustable leveling feet ensure optimum record playback performance. The AT-LP5 comes with connecting cables, a cartridge alignment and overhang adjustment template and a dust cover. The Audio-Technica AT-LP5 Direct Drive Turntable is currently available in matte-black finish at a suggested retail price of US$449.00.
