d&b audiotechnik Introduces B8-SUB Slim Subwoofer at Prolight+Sound 2019

April 3 2019, 00:25
The B8-SUB is an ultra compact subwoofer from d&b audiotechnik, standing only 170 mm tall and keeping a remarkably low profile. Yet, the B8-SUB boasts an exceptionally high performance to size ratio that provides a low frequency extension down to 43 Hz. Paired with the established d&b xC, xS and E-Series loudspeakers, with dedicated models for mobile (B8-SUB) and install (Bi8-SUB), the new sub fits comfortably in the tightest of spaces and is ideal for corporate environments, cruise ships, small venues and more.

This new subwoofer model from d&b audiotechnik serves to show how professional audio manufacturers are thinking about their product designs in a totally new way, increasingly less restrained by live sound industry practices and touring cargo constraints, and more in terms of fitting more demanding types of installations, where sound pressure levels can be as high as live concert halls, but visibility needs to be much less.

The B8 is an actively driven subwoofer that features two 6.5” drivers with ferrite magnets housed within a bass-reflex cabinet design. These precisely tuned drivers achieve an impressive low frequency extension from 170 Hz down to 43 Hz. The B8 can be driven by all current d&b amplifiers, achieving a max. SPL of 122 dB for a truly full range performance from a low profile subwoofer.

With flexible setup options, the B8 and Bi8 provide a complete sound reinforcement solution for a broad range of applications where form factor and performance to size ratio are as important as authentic aural impact. The B8 can be used under stages, stairs or ceilings; landscape or portrait; flush mounted or flown with small mid/high d&b loudspeakers.

“The lower frequencies play an important role in the perception of speech and rhythm,” affirms d&b Product Manager, Wolfgang Schulz. “Subwoofers have often been omitted from applications due to space constraints or the visually sensitive nature of a venue. Now listeners can get a full bandwidth experience everywhere, because it’s very easy to integrate the B8 anywhere.”
