On the eve of another edition of CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the largest trade show geared specifically for motion picture theater owners, Dolby announced its new Integrated Media Server IMS3000 combining Dolby audio and image processing in one unit for immersive audio installations in cinemas of all sizes. Dolby worked with exhibitors, dealers, and the industry to deliver this new integrated solution offering more flexibility, scalability, and cost-efficiency than ever before.

Dolby Laboratories announced a full spectrum of integrated solutions that will save exhibitors of all sizes both time and money while delivering audiences an experience they can trust from Dolby. The new Dolby Integrated Media Server IMS3000 (IMS3000) combines Dolby audio and image processing in one unit. When coupled with the Dolby Multichannel Amplifier and SLS Express Series, the new media server creates a complete, integrated solution from 5.1 to Dolby Atmos sound.

An innovative imaging server and audio processor in one, the new Dolby IMS3000 delivers reliability and enables exhibitors to show movies with superior sound. It also offers flexibility with sound as exhibitors can start with Dolby Audio 5.1 or 7.1 now, and unlock the power of Dolby Atmos later. The Dolby IMS3000’s unified UI and simplified design make setup and operation more convenient and cost-effective, helping deliver better cinema experiences. In addition, the IMS3000 is compatible with Dolby Fidelio and Dolby CaptiView accessibility equipment.

“The industry needs a way to deliver the ultimate entertainment experience for consumers on their own timeline, without breaking the bank,” says Jed Harmsen, senior director, Cinema Products, Dolby Laboratories. “We are debuting an innovative integrated audio and imaging solution that is both efficient and cost effective, to ensure we are providing flexibility for any theatre size, screen size, budget and business need.”

Overall benefits include simplified and streamlined digital cinema operations from postproduction to playback with software solutions for content management. The Dolby IMS3000 is an innovative imaging server and audio processor that allows for more flexibility as it decodes all Dolby audio formats. Exhibitors can start with Dolby Audio 5.1 or 7.1 and upgrade to Dolby Atmos on their own schedule. Installation of the SLS Express Series with the Dolby Multichannel Amplifier is a less expensive option for exhibitors and allows them to maintain the highest standards of sound for theatres of all sizes.

The Dolby Multichannel Amplifier with its advanced high-density design can replace up to 16 stereo amplifiers, using less rack space and producing less heat, to lower overall costs. With less equipment to install, power, and maintain, exhibitors get a simpler and more efficient installation. The Dolby Multichannel Amplifier is available in two configurations: 24 channels or 32 channels.

The SLS Express Series, introduced in 2016, consists of SLS 3-Axis Speakers, which deliver clear and powerful sound in a small, light package that’s easier and quicker to install, and the SLS Rapid Rigging System, which simplifies overhead speaker installation for immersive sound, to reduce labor costs and downtime. This new equipment adds to installation options and works with new or existing equipment, offering exhibitors more flexibility in equipping any size room.
