PreSonus Introduces Eris XT Monitors with Improved Frequency Response and Wider Dispersion

July 5 2019, 00:45
Suitable for both home recording studios and professional environments, PreSonus' Eris studio monitors are very affordable options with respectable specifications. Now, the Baton Rouge, Louisiana based company introduced two new Eris XT models with improved features, new drivers, a larger ported enclosure, and a new Elliptical Boundary Modeled (EBM) waveguide design, the work of Hugh Sarvis (WorxAudio), the mind behind the new PreSonus CDL loudspeakers and R-Series monitors. The Eris XT monitors are a substantial update, offering superior high-frequency response and wider 100-degree horizontal dispersion to create a broader sweet spot.

The new Eris XT nearfield active studio monitors aso use larger enclosures to afford an extended low-frequency response that complements the new high-frequency design. The new custom elliptical waveguide design offers a broad 100° horizontal dispersion, combined with a tightly focused 60° vertical dispersion that helps to minimize early reflections, reducing the effect of one of the most common sources of environmental interference, and creating a more consistent response both on- and off-axis.

The result, Presonus states, provides greater detail and depths that reveal subtle transients and delicate reverb trails, providing a consistent listening experience in any mix environment.

Available in addition to the original Eris E5, the E5 XT features a 5.25-inch woven composite woofer and 1-inch silk dome tweeter, backed by 80W of biamped, Class AB power to deliver up to 102 dB SPL. Its frequency response ranges from 48 Hz to 20 kHz. Replacing the original Eris E8, the E8 XT is equipped with an 8-inch woofer and 1.25-inch tweeter powered by 140W of biamped, Class AB amplification and can crank out up to 105 dB SPL. Its frequency response ranges from 35 Hz to 20 kHz.

Like all PreSonus studio monitors, the new Eris XT monitors provide acoustic tuning controls that allow users to configure the speakers to the position in the room. There are Low-cut, Mid, and High controls, as well as 3-way acoustic space tuning that allows users to easily compensate for the sonic consequences of speaker placement against a wall or in a corner.

The connections include balanced XLR, balanced 1/4-inch, and unbalanced RCA line-level inputs. The monitors also have safety features to reduce the chance of accidental damage including protection against RF interference, output current limiting, over-temperature protection, power on and off transients, an external mains fuse and subsonic protection.

As always from PreSonus, we learn about the new products when the company is ready to ship. The new Eris XT monitors are available now at PreSonus dealers at U.S. street prices of: Eris E5 XT $149.95 each; Eris E8 XT $249.95 each.
