SEAS Launches New Prestige Titan L19RNX1 Woofer

SEAS Fabrikker continues to deliver on its promise to completely renew its product portfolio since the company revitalized its production, moving manufacturing from Taiwan to a new production line in Moss, Norway. Following the announcement in May 2019 of a completely new product-size of woofer in the Excel Graphene Woofer Series, named the 19-series, SEAS now launches the L19RNX1 (H1878-08) in the affordable Prestige Titan Series. The new L19RNX1 woofer was designed to respond to the challenges of high-res audio reproduction with improved clarity and dynamic capability.

The new woofers in the 19-series are the classic 176 mm in diameter but with a new basket design and larger roll surround, with a focus on improved linear excursion capability and dynamic headroom in the bass. This new line implements dynamic (time domain) FEA-optimized magnet systems with copper caps and rings, titanium voice coil formers in combination with matte black aluminium cones and domes.

The L19RNX1 is a high-fidelity woofer with an optimized cone design which in combination with the stiff and lightweight aluminum offers a high break-up point that allows for easier crossover design and wider bandwidth than common aluminum cones. A unique, radially reinforced rubber surround reduces radial resonances and prevents surround break up at large excursions.

The titanium voice coil former features a very long copper coil winding for excellent force transfer, transient sound reproduction and large linear excursion. The FEA-optimized magnet system with precisely fitted copper parts makes for excellent linearity. This in combination with the titanium voice coil former and its connection to the cone, ensures high power handling, excellent force transfer, transient sound reproduction, large linear excursion and low distortion.

As SEAS also explains, this combination results in very low mechanical damping for better clarity and brings out the micro details in the music. The extremely stiff and stable injection moulded metal basket keeps the critical components in perfect alignment. Large windows in the basket both above and below the spider reduce sound reflection, air flow noise and keep cavity resonance to a minimum. The woofer is connected through a pair of gold-plated terminals. The drivers are packaged and sold in pairs.

"At the Munich High-End show in May, SEAS Fabrikker met up with its distributors and a few select members of the press. We asked, "which version of an L19RNX1 woofer would you like to see launched into the market", and we asked them to choose among a version for closed box designs, a version for bass reflex designs, or a a version for a small subwoofer (e.g. with a passive radiator). The L19RNX1 can be tailored to fit any of these purposes, simply by changing the voice coil and air gap. The clear winner was the version for bass reflex designs," explains Claus Futtrup, SEAS Chief Technical Officer.

"Furthermore, we determined that almost everybody preferred 8-ohm woofers. This combination received more than 50% of the votes. Therefore, we are launching this new woofer with the confidence that it will meet the expectations of the market. Low mechanical and electromagnetic damping ensure high quality reproduction of even the finest micro details in music. At the same time the high-performance titanium voice coil former and its stiff connection to the cone has very high power-handling, suitable for modern amplifiers (e.g. Class-D). The driver has exceptionally high dynamic capability which the light and stiff aluminium cone transfers into clean and undistorted sound, suitable for modern high-res audio," he adds.

The frequency responses above shows free field sound pressure in 0, 30, and 60 degrees angles, using a 12L closed box. Input 2.83 VRMS, microphone distante 0.5m, normalized to SPL @1m. The dotted line is a calculated response in infinite baffle, based on the parameters given for this specific driver. The impedance is measured in free air without baffle using a 12V sine signal.
