Powermat, the wireless charging technology pioneer, announced it will become the newest Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) member. Powermat will contribute its technology and expertise to further advance inductive wireless charging capabilities while maintaining backwards compatibility to the existing Qi ecosystem, which was recently converted to the leading global standard, following Apple's decision to adopt Qi in the latest iPhone generation.

"We are looking forward to Powermat joining WPC and contributing to ongoing advancement of the technology and experience", says Menno Treffers, Chairman, WPC. "Powermat was one of the pioneers that recognized the value of wireless charging. By joining WPC, it further unifies the wireless charging ecosystem behind the Qi global standard, which will accelerate wireless charging adoption and make it more convenient for consumers to use wireless charging wherever they go. WPC will leverage Powermat's expertise in technology innovation to support more use cases including higher power and expanded special freedom."

"Qi has become the dominant wireless charging standard on the market and the recently launched Apple iPhone lineup is evidence of this success", says Elad Dubzinski, Powermat CEO. "Powermat will share technology innovation to further unlock wireless charging potential, and will expedite the growth of the wireless charging infrastructure, bringing wireless charging to wherever users need it".

Powermat is joining more than 360 companies now supporting the Qi standard. Established in 2008, the Wireless Power Consortium is an open, collaborative standards development group of companies, based in approximately 23 countries. WPC's members include Apple, ASUS, Belkin, Bosch, Canon, Dell, Google, Haier, HTC, Huawei, IKEA, LG, Motorola, mophie, Panasonic, Royal Philips, Samsung, Sony, and Verizon Wireless. These companies, large and small competitors and ecosystem partners, from all parts of the industry and all parts of the globe, collaborate for a single purpose: to design and evolve the world's most useful, safe and efficient standard for wireless power.

During CES 2018, Powermat released its Charging Spot 4.0 powered by SmartInductive technology, a groundbreaking new platform that can wirelessly charge virtually any device, on almost any surface with no drilling required.

Eliminating barriers that have hindered the industry for over a decade, Powermat’s SmartInductive technology is now compatible with all wireless standards, including Qi, AFA inductive, Apple 7.5W and other fast charging capabilities. And since it supports 0-40W on a single platform, consumers can power up more types of devices than ever before, from mobile phones, to tablets, wearables and even laptops.

“As the leader and pioneer in wireless charging technology, today is the culmination of a long-held vision and a lot of hard work — today is the day when wireless power becomes universal and accessible for all,” says Elad Dubzinski, Powermat CEO. “By enabling greater device compatibility, a simplified charging process and easy installation, we’re making wireless charging technology more accessible for both businesses and consumers.”

SmartInductive technology is a new way to enjoy all the benefits of inductive charging with all the capabilities of long range charging technologies. The first product powered by this technology is Charging Spot 4.0.

Poised to unlock the full potential of wireless charging in public venues, Charging Spot 4.0 can be quickly installed with no drilling required, making it easy and affordable for businesses to transform everyday surfaces into wireless charging stations — with no cords, unsightly hardware or drill holes. Best of all, Powermat Charging Spots are future-proof, so businesses can be confident they will work today and in the future with new smartphones, tablets and laptops being added all the time.
