The Xiaomi Mi AI smart speaker was originally announced in July 2017 and debuted one month later in August 2017 - mainly targeting the Chinese market, since its Smart Assistant only speaks Chinese, and services are restricted to those authorised and available in China. In addition to delivering high-quality audio, its six-microphone array allows voice to be detected from any direction and distance, and its built-in AI processing responds to various user-commands in Chinese.
According to Xiaomi, “Smart speakers, unlike traditional speakers, are a communication device that requires exceptionally clear, refined and powerful sound quality; without it, effective human-device dialogue is not possible. Through this software update, and with the assistance of Dirac’s audio engineering, we’re showcasing to the world a new standard in smart speaker audio quality.”
Dirac and Xiaomi have collaborated on various smartphone and tablet projects in recent years, but this Mi AI software upgrade marks the first time that Dirac’s digital audio optimization solutions have been applied to a smart speaker.
“Xiaomi’s commitment to providing its customers with the highest quality in performance and reliability is second to none – and this latest Mi AI smart speaker software update is evidence of such,” emphasized Niklas Thorin, Dirac Research General Manager of High Performance Audio. “We are proud to continue our collaboration with this forward-looking industry leader, and we look forward to introducing the power of Dirac speaker optimization solutions to Xiaomi Mi AI customers across the globe.”
In addition to Xiaomi, Dirac’s suite of mobile solutions and digital sound optimization technologies is also utilized by many of the world’s top mobile device manufacturers – in addition to blue chip technology companies in the automobile and home theatre markets such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Volvo, BMW, Datasat, Harman, Pioneer, and many more.
