In Perspective: Dolby Partners with Amazon Music HD to Promote Dolby Atmos Music Streaming

When Amazon recently announced its latest Echo Studio smart speaker, focusing on audio quality and promising an "immersive" and "3D Audio" experience, the partnership with Dolby Laboratories was highlighted. The same day, Dolby confirmed that its Dolby Atmos Music format will be supported directly on the Echo Studio with content in the new object-based format being streamed through Amazon Music HD. Dolby states, "listening to music in Dolby Atmos on Echo Studio will unleash every detail as it was meant to be heard, completely immersing fans in a whole new way."

Dear Reality Updates dearVR PRO Software with Multichannel Output Support for All Spatial Audio Production Needs

At IBC 2019, Dear Reality announced an update (v1.4) to its flagship spatial audio software solution. Available from October 2019, the dearVR PRO 3D audio panner will support 26 multichannel output formats. In addition to binaural and Ambisonics outputs, the software will be able to reproduce multichannel formats for loudspeaker playback from 5.0 to 13.1, supporting Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, MPEG-H or the AMBEO Soundbar from Sennheiser.

The German company specialized in spatial audio algorithms and VR/AR audio software will continue to operate as a separate company based in Düsseldorf and Dear Reality confirms that its existing customers will be able to rely on existing dearVR products, while looking forward to new joint VR/AR workflows developed in collaboration with Sennheiser. Uwe Cremering, responsible for AMBEO Immersive Audio at Sennheiser, will support the company as a third CEO alongside founders Achim Fell and Christian Sander.

At NAB 2019, Sennheiser and Solid State Logic (SSL) have announced their cooperation within the framework of the AMBEO for VR partnership program. Solid State Logic’s S500, S300 and TCR System T broadcast mixing consoles will now feature onboard AMBEO A-B conversion for the Sennheiser AMBEO VR Mic. The AMBEO VR Microphone is an ideal tool for providing the 3D audio basis in immersive audio productions. The signals from the Ambisonics microphone can now directly be fed into SSL’s System T consoles.
