Harman Gets Even Closer to Sound Hub Denmark

Harman is one of the partners in the Sound Hub Denmark project, looking to enhance early-stage innovation through talent and idea scouting in a sound-focused environment. As an industry partner, Harman adds to the unique opportunities for companies joining Sound Hub Denmark. In fact, Harman has part of its operations precisely in Struer, Denmark, following the acquisition of the Bang & Olufsen Automotive division years ago. Located just around the corner, Harman wants to be part of the acoustic ecosystem in Denmark.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology (IDMT) has upgraded the highly specialized audio setup at its Ilmenau headquarters, which includes a cutting edge object-based system for producing 3D sound, with the installation of Powersoft’s Ottocanali 4K4 DSP+D amplifier platforms. Fraunhofer IDMT - which focuses on applied research in the field of audiovisual media - is widely known for developing ground-breaking technologies for the digital media industry.

Eight culturally-significant audio inventions will be inducted to the TECnology Hall of Fame (THOF), it was announced today by THOF Founder, George Petersen. The inventions span the 1940s through today and will be officially named during a ceremony held at The 2019 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California on Saturday, January 26. The event will be presented by the NAMM Museum of Making Music. Microsoft contracted Eckel Noise Control Technologies to design and build a new anechoic chamber for audio and device testing at its Redmond, Washington Audio Lab. Independent tests of the main chamber by Brüel & Kjær confirmed that — at -20.6 dB — Microsoft and Eckel had shattered the previous world record for Quietest Place on Earth and far surpassed engineers’ prediction of -16 dB.

The Hill Acoustics Tetrahedral Test Chamber (TTC) produces consistently accurate results when measuring loudspeakers.
