LG Expands webOS Strategy and Partnerships During Software Developer Conference 2023

LG shared its new direction and strategy at the webOS Partner Summit 2023, held at the LG Sciencepark in Seoul, South Korea, and attended by content producers, providers, developers, and industry figures from over 30 countries. LG also promoted its LG Software Developer Conference (SDC) 2023, a two-day event to facilitate communication with professional software developers. And LG USA announced a call for participation in a landmark smart TV hackathon, featuring its webOS TV Developers’ platform.

Netflix Promotes AMBEO 2-Channel Spatial Audio Powered by Sennheiser

Netflix has announced a series of brand-new features for subscribers on its Premium plan, including a surround renderer, powered by Sennheiser’s AMBEO 2-Channel Spatial Audio technology. The pitch says "Members on Netflix’s Premium plan using a stereo system will experience immersive cinematic audio on more than 700 top titles – all on their existing hardware." In reality, Netflix is basically supporting a spatialization rendering engine for content that isn't Dolby Atmos.

SoundHound AI, Inc., the voice AI technology pioneer, announced the completion of the previously announced business combination between SoundHound Inc. and Archimedes Tech SPAC Partners Co., a special purpose acquisition company. The combined company is called SoundHound AI, Inc. and will begin trading on Nasdaq under the new ticker symbol “SOUN” from April 28, 2022.

Adobe released new features and performance updates across its Creative Cloud video and audio tools, where the company’s popular Audition audio editing software is included. The May 2021 release now runs natively on Apple M1 systems and includes new tools such as a Loudness Meter with presets for Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Netflix, and other services, and Strip Silence, allowing to identify and remove silent or inactive regions in recorded clips.

The analyst firm confirms Communications Services Providers (CSPs) will need to turn to consumer voice platforms to explore the full potential of the smart home market.

The Audio Engineering Society’s Audio Guidelines for Over the Top Television and Video Streaming (AGOTTVS) technical group was formed in early 2016 to study the many issues related to audio loudness variations in distributed video content. After four-and-a-half months of work by 50 members, the group has announced the publication of preliminary guidelines.
