Test Bench: The Wavecor SW275BD01 Home Audio Subwoofer

This month, I characterized the SW275BD01, a 10.75" high-end home audio subwoofer from OEM manufacturer Wavecor. This driver has a well-appointed feature set that includes a proprietary cast eight-spoke (four twin spokes) cast aluminum frame, a very stiff black mica/paper composite cone, further stiffened by a 4" convex black hard paper dust cap. Suspension is provided by a FEA optimized low-loss (high Qm) NBR surround plus dual 6” diameter black flat conex spiders (dampers). This article was originally published in Voice Coil, October 2018.

Test Bench: Wavecor WF259PA01 10-Inch PA Woofer

This month, I characterized a a 10” PA woofer from Wavecor, model WF259PA01. This is an interesting driver since, until now, Wavecor has been known mainly for its high-end home hi-fi drivers. However, the company has decided to expand its coverage in the loudspeaker market and has introduced a well-designed 10” OEM pro sound PA woofer. The WF259PA01 is for now available only as an 8 Ω model, and uses a very stiff flat black coated curvilinear paper cone. This article was originally published in Voice Coil, February 2018.

This Test Bench focuses on a new Wavecor 6.5” subwoofer, the SW168WA01. This subwoofer has a generous feature set that includes a proprietary four-spoke stamped steel frame that is substantially open below the spider mounting shelf due to the eight 15×8 mm rectangular vents, and as part of Wavecor’s Balanced Drive motor format, the SW168WA01 further incorporates an aluminum shorting ring. As Dickason reminds us, this new subwoofer is part of the brand's rather extensive line of subwoofers — ranging in size from 2.75” to 12”. Voice Coil featured the 4 Ω version of this device, the SW223BD02, in the April 2015 issue. Wavecor’s SW223BD03, which is the 8 Ω version.
