Next-Generation AVR DA Microcontroller Family From Microchip Enables Real-Time Control, Connectivity and HMI Applications

As the Internet of Things (IoT) delivers greater connectivity for industrial and home applications and as connected vehicles enhance cabin and operational features, higher-performance microcontrollers are required for better real-time control as well as to enable enhanced human machine interface applications. Microchip Technology announced its next generation AVR DA family of microcontrollers (MCUs) – its first Functional Safety Ready AVR MCU family with Peripheral Touch Controller (PTC).

Advancements in the architecture of PIC and AVR 8-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) have optimized the devices for implementing closed-loop control, enabling systems to offload the Central Processing Unit (CPU) to manage more tasks and save power. To help designers maximize performance and efficiency in these systems, Microchip Technology introduced the new PIC18 Q10 and ATtiny1607 families, featuring multiple intelligent Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) that simplify development and enable quick response time to system events.

Microchip announced that new PIC32MM “GPM” MCUs are now available. The eXtreme Low Power (XLP) devices feature large memory in small packages, providing ample battery life for space-constrained applications. With the inclusion of USB support, I2S and several other connectivity options, Core Independent Peripherals and feature-rich development boards, the “GPM” MCUs are well suited for digital audio applications, and entertainment devices.

Microchip's latest PIC MCU family brings ease of design with more Core Independent Peripherals and is first to offer a 48-pin package with additional ADC channels and I/Os. The new PIC16F15386 family with CIPs uses MPLAB Code Configurator for quick development and offers Memory Access Partition with write-protection to prevent accidental over-write. A Device Information Area protects unique device identification and calibration values.

Microchip Technology released a new generation of 8-bit tinyAVR MCUs. The four new devices range from 14 to 24 pins and 4 KB to 8 KB of Flash and are the first tinyAVR microcontrollers to feature Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs). The new devices will be supported by Atmel START, an innovative online tool for intuitive, graphical configuration of embedded software projects.
