The April 2023 issue of Voice Coil reveals the genesis of Echo Test + Measurement and its AIO Test System. Stuart Yaniger shares his impressions and measurements of the Phonitor One d Headphone Amplifier System, designed by SPL of Germany. This product uses the company’s unique 120V circuitry, and also features an acclaimed AKM premium USB DAC and balanced stereo line output, effectively enabling it to function as a combination DAC and preamp. An interesting design also because of its Phonitor Matrix, a unique feature designed to electronically create a crosstalk signal and generate something similar to the effect of acoustic crosstalk around our head when listening through headphones. The Legend Series, the most advanced loudspeakers in Polk Audio’s history where undoubtedly one of the highlights at the 2019 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest (RMAF). The latest flagship speaker line from Polk Audio, the Legend Series represents the most sophisticated, and intensively engineered loudspeakers the company has ever introduced. The new Stereo Dimensional Array on the new L800 speakers was justifiably one of RMAF’s most popular demonstrations.

The DSP501 / DSP502 are two new state of the art Digital Signal Processors from Swiss company Weiss Engineering, founded in 1985 by Daniel Weiss. The two new processors, featuring exclusive algorithms developed by the company, that the company describes as "the essence of our experiences." The implementation in the two new hardware units intends to "enhance or adapt the audio signal to the room acoustics or speakers at hand," and combines some rather unique features.

In Acoustic Patents, James Croft discusses a new patent awarded to Polk Audio, updating the original Stereo Dimensional Array (SDA) loudspeaker with a new improved crosstalk cancellation version, and Vance Dickason characterizes the new Bold North Audio MS-10W woofer, a direct replacement for the famous white 6.5” driver on Yamaha’s NS10 studio monitors!

Combining all the possibilities of modern digital processing technology and electroacoustic design, Swiss companies Weiss and PSI Audio are promoting a fully working demonstration of the LiveBox fully-integrated Crosstalk Cancellation speaker, which allows both convincing stereo and binaural experiences from a single source, designed to be like “a piece of furniture.”
