Hansong Reference Design Adopts Summit Low Cost Discovery Module for Adding Wireless Speakers to Smart TVs

Summit Wireless Technologies, announced that Hansong, one of the largest Original Design Manufacturers (ODM) to major audio brands, will offer a new technology reference platform targeting wireless soundbars, audio hubs, and speakers based on Summit's Internet of Things (IoT) transceiver module. The new Hansong development platform will offer a ready to use solution for high-volume projects in the home theater market.

Renesas Electronics Corporation announced two new reference designs that simplify and speed the development of USB Power Delivery (PD3.0) and USB-C battery charging applications such as USB-C computing hubs, power banks, car chargers, SSD enclosures, point of sale (POS) printers, and desktop displays. The RTK-251-1PowerBank3 and RTK-251-BuckBoostConverter2 are USB-IF PD3.0 certified design kits, and represent the first in a new series of reference designs for applications implementing the USB Type-C power and data connection standard.

Universal Electronics (UEI), a company specializing in universal control and sensing technologies for the smart home, announced a collaboration with Microsoft to launch a new digital assistant platform for the home built on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform using AI and IoT services. The UEI’s Nevo Butler turnkey smart home hub with nevo.ai built-in digital assistant will be launched at CES 2019 and will be available as a white-label solution for other manufacturers.

With USB Type-C products gaining ground fast, not all applications require the full spec of USB 3.1 Gen2 and 10Gbps data rates. For those simple connectivity applications with legacy equipment, Microchip introduced a next-generation hub integrated circuit (IC) for USB Type-C applications supporting seven ports. The USB58xx and USB59xx next-generation families of SmartHubs are the first seven-port USB 3.1 Gen1 hub ICs available in the market today and offer simpler designs and cost savings over previous solutions.
