Expanding Horizons in Audio and Voice

It's been an interesting week! Just prior to the IBC 2017 show, Apple made its traditional event for the launch of the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X (and those Augmented Reality demos were amazing!), also debuting the new Apple TV 4K. And before Samsung and all the other Smartphone manufacturers start announcing their own versions of "X" models, we had a series of interesting corporate and technology announcements, culminating by Amazon's announcement of a series of new Alexa-based hardware devices...

StageTec introduced its new AVATUS IP mixing console at IBC 2017, featuring a new Router InterFace AES67 (RIF67) board, designed in cooperation with DirectOut Technologies. Using multiple 21" multi-touch screens for display and control functions, the impressive AVATUS offers an IP-based connection to the audio processing, combined with a workflow-oriented operation, in which only the relevant, context-related functions are displayed on the touch screens.

Solid State Logic announced the System T - S300, a new compact broadcast console with a fixed layout control surface that can be combined with the complete portfolio of SSL’s networked solutions. At the same time, SSL has recently delivered its largest single System T configuration to-date, with 5400x4500 channels, to a large international broadcast facility. At IBC 2017, SSL participates in the SMPTE 2110 compatibility demonstration, and the Integrated IP Showcase Theatre with System T solutions.

NUGEN Audio is showcasing a beta version of its AMB Dolby Module, the latest option for the AMB Audio Management Batch processor modular software, at IBC 2017. The final version of the AMB Dolby Module is expected to be released in Q4. Also, for the first time at IBC, NUGEN Audio will demonstrate the new Halo 3D Immersive Extension for its award-winning Halo Upmix. This makes it possible to upmix, re-purpose or convert channel-based audio for an Ambisonic workflow.

Studio Technologies has released a Dante Master Clock that provides precise timing signals for applications that utilize Dante Audio-over-Ethernet media networking technology. The Model 5401 implements a high-performance IEEE 1588 precision time protocol (PTP) server, compatible with the requirements of Dante and capable of simultaneously supporting the timing needs of up to hundreds of Dante-compatible devices.
