The remainder of this issue is centered on Test Bench characterizations of two very innovative drivers that Vance Dickason has received. The first one on the Test Bench was the PTT6.5M08-NFA-01 6.5" Midrange from Purifi Audio; The second driver was the already popular SW26DBAC76-4 10" shallow subwoofer from SB Acoustics.

Test Bench: The MD60N-6 2.5" Dome Midrange from the SB Acoustics Satori Line

This is a Test Bench of one of the most intriguing high-frequency drivers from SB Acoustics' high-end Satori line, the MD60N-6 2.5" dome midrange. This design by Danesian Audio of Denmark, is a soft dome midrange that features a non-resonant coated cloth, and a large neodymium ring magnet with a dynamic dome stabilizer and flow resistor. There is also an injection-molded back-closed transmission line enclosure, filled with Thinsulate damping, mounted directly on the back side, covering its entire surface. To meet this continuing challenge, Italian manufacturer B&C Speakers introduced the new DCX354 coaxial ring radiator. A more compact sibling of the groundbreaking DCX464 launched in 2019, the DCX354 comprises five years of R&D, two patents, and a radical MF diaphragm design to achieve what the company describes as its loudest, widest-bandwidth compression driver yet.

Test Bench: TB Speaker 75-1558SH High-End Home Audio 3" Dome Midrange

This is an interesting Test Bench of a 3" dome midrange from Tang Band Speaker (aka TB Speaker), model 75-1558SH, intended for high-end and home audio applications. One of the most innovative and prolific OEM speaker manufacturers from Asia, Tang Band submitted a new 75mm diameter soft dome midrange, using a coated cloth diaphragm and surround, with a large neodymium magnet and distortion reducing shorting ring. The steel cup has a foam damped vent that loads into a shaped and 100% polyester-filled injection-molded back enclosure. This article was originally published in Voice Coil, June 2022.

Monitor Audio Group Previews Concept 50 Cluster Loudspeaker at High End 2022

As part of the company's 50th anniversary celebration, British manufacturer Monitor Audio showcased a new bold loudspeaker development. Presented as a fully-working prototype, the Concept 50 is a three-way configuration loudspeaker with a unique driver arrangement, featuring a new-generation MPD pleated diaphragm tweeter surrounded by an array of six mid-range drivers, suspended on a two-legged cabinet configuration holding four force-cancelling bass drivers. The Concept 50 is scheduled to go into production later in 2022.

Eventually, market adoption requires that standard references are also offered for retail. Celestion announced that the CF0820BMB and CF0820M, two of its 8-inch diameter ferrite magnet, cast aluminum chassis professional audio LF loudspeakers are now available packaged individually for dealers and distributors to sell to retail.
