DirectOut Updates MONTONE.42 Firmware with ST 2110-31 Support

A major firmware update has been released for the MONTONE.42, DirectOut’s MADI to Ravenna/AES67 converter. According to the German networked audio and interconnectivity specialist, the transparent transport of AES3 audio data over IP is now possible with the MONTONE.42 through the newly added ST 2110-31 support. Meanwhile, DirectOut Technologies also announced the appointment of a new distributor in the US for the non-broadcast related pro audio market segment of the industry.

During my time at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2019 show, I looked closely at how companies are dealing with the transition to IP networks, how prevalent some proprietary technologies still are in commercial installation and AV in particular (e.g., HDBaseT), and how manufacturers are introducing new products and concepts to integrate those networked systems, in particular those protocols that support AES67 audio and the latest SMPTE ST-2110 suite of standards in general.

Studio Technologies growing line of audio-over-Ethernet products is receiving wide recognition and reflects the growing adoption of audio networking solutions and a changing media infrastructure. The Illinois-based manufacturer introduced two new audio interfaces for applications that use the SMPTE ST 2110 suite of standards – the Model 5512 Audio Interface and the Model 5518 Mic/Line Interface. The Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) will join forces with the Audio Engineering Society (AES) to host the first Audio-Over-IP Technology (AoIP) Pavilion at AES New York 2018, co-located with the 2018 NAB Show New York at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, Oct. 17-19. The AoIP Pavilion will consist of six demo pods, an AIMS demonstration area, and a Pavilion Theater, all of which will highlight the latest in AoIP technology and compatibility, including AES67 and associated technologies as they relate to SMPTE ST 2110.

IBC 2018 Report: Audio-Over-IP at the Crossroads of Next Generation Audio

In my previous report on IBC 2018, I addressed some key technology trends from the IBC show in Amsterdam (September 13-18, 2018), in the perspective of audio technology, content production, and distribution. Of course, on the backbone of all the tremendous changes that are currently happening in the media business, broadcast, and professional production, the topic of audio-over-IP (AoIP) and the ongoing transition to fully IP-enabled operations in all platforms - traditional linear television, radio (digital, hybrid, virtual, etc.), and new over-the-top and on-demand streaming services - is front and center.
