The HDBaseT Alliance has announced the standardization of long-reach extension of USB 3.2 connectivity to address the need for a high-bandwidth, low-power, long-reach, compact technology in support of this interface that continues to be popular in AV applications. The new HDBaseT-USB3 standard is set to be implemented as an ASIC solution in the near future, and will empower manufacturers of audiovisual products for the first time ever to natively embed long-reach USB 3.2 and power extension into their products.

The Road to USB4 ...and a New USB Audio Device Class!

This year, I was really looking forward to meeting with the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), the support organization for the advancement and adoption of USB technology, and discuss their projects for the USB4 Specification, the really big, gigantic update story on that front (at least in consumer electronics) since CES last year. The USB-IF announced the publication of the latest and greatest USB4 specification in September 2019, offering a major update to the USB architecture that complements and builds upon the existing USB 3.2 and USB 2.0 architectures. USB-IF Introduces Fast Charging to Expand its Certified USB Charger Initiative

During CES 2018, USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), the support organization for the advancement and adoption of USB technology, announced that it will expand its Certified USB Charger Compliance and Logo Program to include Certified USB Fast Chargers. Certified USB Fast Chargers support the Programmable Power Supply (PPS) feature of the USB Power Delivery 3.0 specification.

Synopsys Delivers Industry's First USB 3.2 Verification IP and Test Suite for Higher Performance USB Designs

Synopsys announced the availability of the industry's first verification IP (VIP) and UVM source code test suite to support the latest USB 3.2 specification. USB 3.2 enables new hosts and devices with USB Type-C to be designed as multi-lane solutions, allowing for up to two lanes of 5 Gbps or two lanes of 10 Gbps operation, doubling the data rate over the existing USB Type-C cables. It also supports re-timer enhancements.
