Adam Hall Group Introduces MAUI P900 Portable PA Concept in Collaboration with Porsche Design Studio

With one of the largest booth areas at Prolight+Sound 2017 in Frankfurt, the Adam Hall Group – both a manufacturer and distributor of event technology solutions – captured all the attentions at the Frankfurt show, unveiling several new products among its many brands and mainly with the introduction of the new MAUI P900 Concept portable PA system, on its LD Systems brand, designed in collaboration with the legendary Porsche Design Studio. It seams clear Adam Hall is raising the bar for the pro audio industry.

The Adam Hall Group - also the largest Eminence distributor in the world - is a leading German manufacturing and distribution company providing event technology solutions around the globe to music instrument retailers and dealers, live event and rental companies, broadcast studios, AV and system integrators, private and public enterprises, and industrial flightcase manufacturers. The company offers a wide range of professional audio and lighting technology as well as stage equipment and flightcase hardware under its brands LD Systems, Cameo, Gravity, Defender, Palmer and Adam Hall.

All that universe was presented in a larger and very well designed booth area, where , at the start of the exhibition, its pro audio brand, LD Systems, unveiled its near-production concept for a future-oriented sound product, which has been developed in collaboration with Porsche Design Studio. “Our development team, together with the designers from the Porsche Design Studio, have done a first-class job. We are introducing a brand new kind of design into the industry. I am really looking forward to seeing the reactions in the market,” says Alexander Pietschmann, CEO of the Adam Hall Group.

This was by far the largest press event held at Prolight+Sound 2017.

The new product is basically an expansion of its successful MAUI range of portable PA systems, combining the typical vertical column with a subwoofer base. LD Systems already has several iterations in the market at fairly affordable prices, very popular in bars with the ocasional live music, used by small travelling bands and one-man-band artists, as well as used for trade presentations and corporate events. The new MAUI P900 takes over, adding a completely new level of design combined with functionality. As Adam Hall describes, “Imagine a modern art audio system. Imagine a solid block of aluminium, a laser-sharp diagonal cut. Creating the MAUI P900, we set out to turn our imagination into reality. We have combined state-of-the-art audio technology and sleek elegance into a loudspeaker system that breaks new ground. Merging inspired aesthetics with technical excellence, the MAUI P900 is a vision come true.”

In fact it’s almost unheard of to see this level of detail and exquisite design in a pro audio product - more akin to a typical high end audio system of completely different price levels. In fact, starting from the product development itself, all the way to the marketing work surrounding its introduction and its public presentation at Prolight+Sound 2017, Adam Hall has put all other audio companies in the industry to shame. And it actually doesn’t stop there.

The engineering team responsible for the new MAUI P900 Concept from both Adam Hall/LD Systems and Porsche Design Studio.

“This integrative design has never been seen before on the market and makes no compromises on sound quality, but is technically unique,” says Porsche Design Studio designer Jörg Tragatschnig, who has worked with his team on the design. And these could be ideal conditions for a new status quo in professional music reproduction.

The perfect symbiosis of form and function, with its smooth lines and advanced engineering, the MAUI P900 actually sounds great. Rather than being an end in itself, the distinctive visual design serves the clear purpose of supporting and enhancing the system’s functionality and audio performance. A skillful blend of select materials emphasizes the MAUI P900’s integrated design approach. Providing high strength
and superb corrosion resistance, the aluminium body is furnished with a grille of multilayer mesh. The elastic high-tech material is dirt-repellent, extremely hardwearing and allows sound waves to pass through without hindrance or colouration.

Deep inside the MAUI P900’s streamlined contours, next generation Class D amplification and LD Systems’ DynX DSP technology provide massive headroom, exceptional transient response and distortion-free performance. The result - we could attest - is a natural, dynamic sound that’s surprisingly omnipresent, even in difficult acoustical environments, such as a trade show.

“From a subtle pianissimo to thundering high-energy crescendos, the MAUI P900 delivers truly prodigious sound,” states Adam Hall . That’s probably because the systems combines a massive total of 50 premium transducers with neodymium motor structures, incorporating LD Systems WaveAhead tweeter arrangement technology, and the innovative SonicGuide. All those innovations play a major role in the MAUI P900’s outstanding audio performance. The patent pending design merges the midrange and high frequency transducers’ signals to a coherent plane wavefront that is perfectly phase and time aligned.

On the operational side, setting up and operating the MAUI P900 is as simple as it gets and requires no expert knowledge. Featuring the essential connectors and controls only and plug-and-play convenience, the system is ready to perform anytime. The full range system response - 42 - 20,000 Hz - is able to achieve 131dB maximum SPL (peak), with a 140° x 10° (H x V) dispersion. The vertical column measures 2173 mm (85”) and accommodates 32 x 1” neodymium HF transducers, 16 x 2.8” neodymium MF transducers and two 10” neodymium woofers for the low frequencies. The SonicGuide waveguide design (patent pending) combines the MF and HF transducer arrangement, and the complete systems is amplified by a single Class D 1400 W / 2800 W (RMS / peak) module, carefully coordinated with the mentioned DynX DSP technology.

Connections to the MAUI P900 include two stereo line inputs - 2 x XLR / 6.3 mm jack - and stereo Bluetooth streaming, with dedicated mono XLR outputs and local controls for Main level, Sub level, Bluetooth, Mono/Stereo setup, and Power on/off. The MAUI P900 is available in Graphite Black, Platinum Grey or Cocoon White to discreetly fit into any ambience and decor. Retail price and availability is not yet confirmed, but there is a preview video here.

More new products
But Adam Hall’s introductions at Prolight+Sound 2017 don’t stop with the Porsche Design Studio concept. In the same MAUI range, LD Systems announced the new MAUI 5 GO, a mobile, battery-powered column-PA system. With six hours of battery life from a single charge and long-term high performance thanks to its lithium-ion replacement batteries, the MAUI 5 GO guarantees total freedom and the same excellent sound quality that have already made the MAUI 5 a bestseller: ultra-portable construction, PA and monitor system in one, an integrated mixer with Bluetooth, 800 Watts peak power, high sound pressure with 120 dB (Peak) and award-winning design.

Skipping the lighting products announcements, which are aplenty, we also highlight the company’s Gravity range of stands and accessories, that’s taking the industry by storm. The new Adam Hall brand already covers almost all of the classic areas of application, and continues to extend its portfolio, now with a revolutionary laptop stand, a highly flexible keyboard table, as well as new products from the lifestyle sector, such as headphone stands.
