Fulcrum Acoustic Unveils New CS118 Subcardioid Subwoofer

Fulcrum Acoustic consistently delivers high-performance professional loudspeaker technologies and InfoComm 2016 was another opportunity for the company to demonstrate new designs. This time, David Gunness and team have introduced the CS118 Subcardioid Subwoofer module. The C118 incorporates Fulcrum’s patent-pending Passive Cardioid Technology to effectively reduce excessive rear LF radiation without requiring additional amplifier channels or additional transducers to control low frequencies.

Featuring a single, high-power 18-inch direct radiating woofer in a rugged, compact enclosure, the CS118 is specifically designed for permanent installation in a wide range of applications and venues, including performing arts centers, houses of worship, sporting facilities, and nightclubs. A variety of mounting points facilitate suspension via shoulder eye bolts or a yoke bracket.

Incorporating Fulcrum’s patent-pending Passive Cardioid Technology, the CS118 dramatically reduces excessive rear low frequency radiation by up to 10dB over the subwoofer’s operating range without the need for additional drivers, amplifiers, or signal processing. Fulcrum’s passive cardioid technology creates a subcardioid pattern using a highly refined acoustical circuit balancing the low frequency driver’s position with the enclosure’s depth and volume, as well as meticulously designed rear ports incorporating a precisely calibrated resistive element. By opting for a subcardioid pattern as opposed to a pure, hyper or super cardioid pattern, the rear rejection increases when the modules are deployed in a subwoofer array.

The CS118 combines Fulcrum’s proprietary TQ processing with the most innovative designs in acoustical circuitry to deliver exacting pattern control, unequalled performance and precision transient response, even at the highest sound pressure levels. The required digital signal processing can be provided by one of many supported platforms.

The CS118 subwoofer is able to respond from 29 Hz to 137 Hz, reaching continuous 128 dB SPL levels in whole space measurements, operating from a single amplification channel from 1200 W to 1800 W at 8Ω. During the InfoComm show in Las Vegas, Fulcrum demonstrated the new C118 Subcardioid Subwoofer in combination with the company’s line array modules designed for a wide range of applications.
