Harman International Industries announced that it has entered into a long-term collaboration with Lufthansa, one of the world’s largest airlines, to equip passengers with an aviation-certified adaptation of AKG N60 NC (noise cancelling) headphones. Beginning in January 2017, all business class seats on Lufthansa flights will be outfitted with the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) award winning active noise-cancelling headphones from AKG.

“Whether enjoying movies, music, games, or any of Lufthansa’s in-flight entertainment offerings, business cabin passengers will enjoy a luxurious and immersive audio experience through Harman’s award-winning AKG headphones,” says Michael Mauser, EVP and President of the Harman Lifestyle Audio Division. “This is the first initiative in what we expect will be a long-term partnership with Lufthansa, to provide future Harman connected technologies to equip the organization and their passengers.”

The AKG N60 NC on-ear headphones have been designed and acoustically tuned with the traveler in mind. Best in class active noise cancellation minimizes the disruptive sounds encountered on everything from planes to trains. Premium material such as aluminum, memory foam and leather provide elegant aesthetics, while remaining lightweight for a comfortable listening experience.

The winner of the EISA Awards 2015-2016 on the mobile headphones category, the new AKG N60NC dynamic closed-back headphones provide up to 30 hours of battery life in active noise cancelation mode (while still allowing use in passive mode), and charge via USB. The AKG N60 are small and lightweight (just 150g), very simple to use and they fold up nicely. They ship with a soft pouch, a one button universal remote/mic cable, flight adaptor, and a USB charging cable.

The AKG N60 NC headphones meet the latest aviation standards, including RTCA-DO160G, plane manufacturer specific tests, and are certified equipment for all current and new planes, including Airbus A350 and Boeing 777. Harman will also support the repair, service or replacement of headphones as needed, ensuring Lufthansa’s passengers always enjoy best quality. The agreement to supply AKG N60 NC equipment is for an initial term of five years.

The Lufthansa Group’s airlines currently (i.e. as of summer 2016) serve 316 destinations in 101 countries on four continents. The Group’s total fleet comprises some 600 aircraft; and its member airlines will be taking delivery of 251 new transports between now and 2025. The Group employed around 120,000 personnel in 2015, welcomed 107.7 million passengers aboard its flights.
