Libratone Adds Amazon Alexa Voice Integration and Airplay2 to its ZIPP Speaker Range

Libratone is a brand that prides itself on staying ahead of the curve, and now joined the smart home revolution by adding Amazon Alexa skill and voice integration to its award-winning ZIPP speaker range. Apart from the Amazon Alexa integration, the brand also announced that its ZIPP range of wireless and home speakers will be among the first in the market to support Apple's recently updated AirPlay 2 technology, which will be implemented with the availability of iOS 11.

"Libratone believes in setting sound free, and with this in mind, the Libratone ZIPP skill for Amazon Alexa makes it even easier to operate," says Simon Peschcke-Køedt, VP of Global Marketing, and Head of Libratone Denmark. ”The ability to control your ZIPP with your voice is an important step in this direction. Now you can simply enable the Libratone ZIPP skill, then ask Alexa on a device like the Echo Dot to turn up the volume of your ZIPP no matter where you choose to place it”.

Founded in 2009 in Denmark, Libratone designs speakers in the best Scandinavian tradition, combining high performing sound with plush fabrics for a warmer, brighter listening experience. In 2012, the company was noticed with its iconic ZIPP speaker - the first portable, wireless and cylinder shaped speaker that allowed the sound to flow in 360°. The speaker is equipped with a designed leather handle and was constructed to be light and ultra portable. In 2014, the company welcomed Chinese investment and technological insight, enabling an unprecedented technological leap forward.

Libratone today holds a patent on their 360° FullRoom™ acoustic technology, which spreads soundwaves in multiple directions. In 2015, Libratone launched the next generation ZIPP-speakers, with its unique SoundSpace-concept, allowing users to create their own SoundSpaces by streaming music, podcasts and movies anywhere in their home. The speakers are constantly being updated via firmware updates which make them adaptable for new developments in the audio market.

One example is precisely the addition of the Libratone ZIPP skill for Alexa, compatible with the Alexa Voice service, allowing users to talk to the ZIPP and tell it what they want Alexa to do. Because ZIPP works with all Alexa commands and it is battery operated, allowing users to take it anywhere, the implementation opens the door to a world of new smart home devices and uses cases.

Amazon Alexa voice command control and integration is available to all existing ZIPP and ZIPP MINI users totally free of charge, through a simple update, due to be released in fall this year. Existing users will automatically be notified about the update on the Libratone App.

Home integration with AirPlay 2
Meanwhile, with Apple AirPlay 2 announced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference and due to launch later this year, Libratone already announced its intention to adapt its speaker platform to the new improved multiroom wireless possibilities.

”We are proud to be one of the first Wireless speaker companies in the world to release AirPlay 2 support. This will underpin our ambition of bringing well sounding and beautifully designed wireless speakers to the world even further,” says Simon Peschcke-Køedt. “AirPlay 2 will mean that millions of people can set music free – by easily controlling speakers from their Mac’s, iPhones and iPads. Consumers with iOS devices all over the world will now have multi-room audio control right in their hands.”

The update will be ready shortly after Apple’s release of AirPlay 2, and will be totally free of charge for all existing ZIPP and ZIPP MINI Users.

“We believe the launch of iOS 11 and AirPlay 2 will significantly increase consumer interest in the enjoyment and flexibility of connected speakers. Optimizing the music experience by offering the consumers a maximum of flexibility and freedom have been our goal all along,” Simon Peschcke-Køedt
adds.
