Shure Introduces GLX-D Advanced Digital Wireless Products, Provides Wireless Updates and Guidance

February 6 2017, 03:00
At the 2017 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, Shure introduced an important new solution to its portfolio or wireless microphones with the GLX-D Advanced Digital Wireless products and accessories. The suite of GLX-D products offers increased channel count, solid RF performance, and expanded automatic frequency management for install applications. Shure also introduced new VHF frequency bands its ULX-D and QLX-D Digital Wireless Systems and launched a new wireless information resource center.

Shure's latest addition to the acclaimed GLX-D Digital Wireless line, the new GLX-D Advanced Digital Wireless is an enhanced suite of products, including the GLX-D Advanced Frequency Manager, rack mount receiver system, remote antennas, and accessories. Whether used to outfit Houses of Worship, educational institutions, auditoriums, or event venues with multiple wireless system requirements, the new GLX-D Advanced Digital Wireless products provide the best-sounding, easiest multi-system wireless experience.

GLX-D Advanced creates the opportunity for install customers to benefit from notable GLX-D features, including exceptional digital audio, automatic frequency management, and intelligent rechargeable batteries. Using the new Frequency Manager, GLX-D Advanced users can seamlessly and confidently operate up to nine simultaneous systems in typical conditions (11 channels in optimal conditions).

With a new rack-mountable configuration, GLX-D Advanced allows up to six GLXD4R receivers to be linked to a GLX-D Advanced Frequency Manager via the RF ports. To simplify installation, the Frequency Manager automatically assigns optimal frequencies to all six receivers utilizing patented data communication via the existing RF cables. Linking two Frequency Managers together enables the use of additional rack mount systems.

“GLX-D Advanced saves both installers and users time and money by including rack hardware and rechargeability in the box,” says Mike Nagel, Wireless Product Manager at Shure. “In fact, over the life of one battery, customers can save $2000 vs. disposable batteries — combining that with the 16-hour run time provides exceptional value.”

Back to VHF Frequency Bands
During NAMM 2017, Shure also announced that its industry leading ULX-D Digital Wireless System and related accessories are now available in the VHF frequency band, with the QLX-D Digital Wireless System also becoming available early this year in VHF bands. These VHF options provide users with 42 MHz of tuning bandwidth in spectrum that is as predictable and as usable as today’s UHF TV band.

As the spectrum landscape evolves, Shure continues to serve as an industry advocate and information resource, and aims to provide users with new options that offer the reliability and top-notch sound quality for which Shure wireless systems are known. These VHF band ULX-D and QLX-D systems build on an existing portfolio of Shure wireless products designed to offer alternatives for the increasingly crowded UHF TV Band, which includes systems capable of operating in the 900 MHz band (ULX-D, QLX-D, and PGX-D), DECT (Microflex Wireless), and 2.4GHz (GLX-D Digital Wireless).

The ULX-D and QLX-D VHF systems and accessories offer the same features and benefits that the UHF systems offer, including spectrum efficiency, powerful recharging accessories, networking options, and rugged construction for everyday use. ULX-D Digital Wireless offers extremely efficient RF performance, networked control, Dante digital audio (on ULXD4D and ULXD4Q dual and quad receivers), and AES-256 encryption for professional sound reinforcement. QLX-D delivers defined, streamlined performance with transparent, 24-bit digital audio. Combining professional features with simplified setup and operation, QLX-D offers outstanding wireless functionality for live sound events and installations.

A variety of new VHF-ready accessories are available with the VHF versions of ULX-D and QLX-D, including the UA844+V antenna distribution system, UA834V in-line amplifier, UA874V active directional antenna, and UA860V passive, ground-referenced omni-directional antenna. The UA845UWB antenna distribution system is switchable for UHF/VHF.

Incentive Auction Resource Center
To better serve wireless users as spectrum availability and regulations continue to evolve in the United States, Shure has announced an online Incentive Auction Resource Center that summarizes the status of the auction and provides links to relevant tools and product information.

The ongoing incentive auction of spectrum in the 600 MHz band has caused concern and confusion for many wireless microphone users, resellers, and installers. Because it’s a mix of complex technical concepts and regulatory jargon, it has been difficult to find accurate and timely information that is easy to understand. Even those who have been diligently following FCC announcements and regulatory filings are uncertain of how impending changes could affect the wireless equipment that they already have or that they plan to purchase.

For wireless users who want to check on the progress of the auction, the Shure Incentive Auction Resource Center provides a clear view of the status of the current stage of the incentive auction. The Center also includes an auction timeline, straightforward explanations of how the process works, and information about how the auction will affect wireless users and how Shure is updating its wireless product lines in preparation. Visitors can request email alerts to receive status updates as they occur.

“The Incentive Auction is extremely complex,” said Mark Brunner, Vice President of Corporate and Government Relations at Shure. “It has been difficult for wireless users to find information that is accurate and timely, yet easy to understand. The Incentive Auction Resource Center is designed to keep them up to date and let them know what Shure is doing to address their wireless needs, now and in the future.”

The Auction Resource Center page is now available on Shure's website at www.shure.com/americas/incentive-auction-resource-center.
