Powersoft Takes its Deva Division to the Next Level with Appointment of Karl Kahlau

January 27 2017, 03:00
Powersoft announced escalated efforts for the division responsible for its innovative Deva family of automated audio messaging and video devices. Demonstrating the Italian company has more to offer than amplification, with immediate effect, Karl Kahlau, one of the company’s most senior and experienced managers, relinquished his post as Regional Sales Account Manager (EMEA and India) to head the new initiative as Executive Director, Deva.

Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Florence, Italy, Powersoft designs and manufactures technologies and solutions for the professional audio industry. Mainly recognized for its lightweight, high power, energy efficient, switched-mode technology Class-D amplifiers, Powersoft is also recognized as a “rich” company in terms of development, and not just in the field of pure amplification technologies, as the recent successful entry into the transducer segment, with the M-Force System demonstrates.

Some years ago, Powersoft started researching the Deva multifunctional device, which is basically a speaker equipped with several sensors (i.e., a microphone, a presence detector, a twilight switch, and a accelerometer), a video camera, LED lights, and everything needed to combine public address with audio messaging and video capturing. This device would be, in itself, a remarkable concept, combining an original design with a complete rethinking of the applications, which the Deva addresses. However, Powersoft also refined the electronic design to minimize power consumption, enabling uninterrupted use, powered by an internal rechargeable battery that can be quickly recharged using a latest-generation solar panel.

The Deva also has a multiple enclosure finish that emphasizes its exquisite raindrop-shaped design, specifically intended to protect the internal circuitry from exposure to the atmospheric elements, making it an ideal solution for outdoor applications (IP 65 rated). The Deva system even features a GSM/UMTS communications module, GPS, dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and wired Ethernet connectivity. Inside, we find Powersoft’s renowned Class-D amplifier modules, making the Deva a unique solution for background music and paging applications, combined with video and/or audio surveillance.

This project is a fine indicator of Powersoft’s engineering department ’s capabilities and willingness to bring innovative solutions to market. Now, Powersoft intends to maximize the potential of this industry-unique IoT product. The entire system is now fully networked and zonable within standard Ethernet networking topology. Deva additionally contains a multitude of sensors and controlling functions, such as built-in GPS with Google Earth allocation and environmental sensors for temperature, humidity etc. It is capable of being completely be self-sustainable, using Solar panel for recharge and Wi-Fi / UMTS / 3G / 4G for communication and networking. The networked system is controllable through the Powersoft Deva Device (PDD) manager or through third-party interaction. The resulting concept is not only a technical marvel, but also reflects the qualities of Italian design, housed in a spectacular enclosure, with optional finishes.

Karl Kahlau, along with the Powersoft Deva team, will set out to reform the global sales and support organization for the product. Preparations for the next step in Deva’s evolution began in late December in preparation for its worldwide launch at February’s Integrated Systems Europe in Amsterdam (February 7-10, 2017) at the dedicated Deva booth (Hall #7-V200).

"The strategy of sales, covering vertical markets such as AV Integration, Safety and Security, Access control and Professional Audio, has been designed as a hybrid approach — to maximize access to projects and distribution network, yet maintaining strong service and support, capitalizing on the already well-recognized Powersoft S.p.A. brand," the company states.

Karl Kahlau, himself, brings over two decades of experience within the export industry where, before joining Powersoft in 2013, for more than 12 years was responsible for sales and marketing, as Export Sales Manager EMEA at Renkus-Heinz Inc.

In his previous work he pioneered sales in Europe and Middle East on electronically steerable self-powered and networked loudspeakers systems and has been an evangelist of promoting high quality, premium performance installations. In recent years, together with the Powersoft team, he has successfully built sales and support networks in regions such as Middle East, North Africa and most recently India.

Powersoft Director of Sales and Marketing, Luca Giorgi comments:  "Karl was the obvious candidate for this role. His experience and professional market and product knowledge fit perfectly with both our portfolio as well as our corporate culture here at Powersoft. To have Karl at the helm, driving the Deva division with Powersoft’s dynamic technical team, is a logical step in the evolution of the product. We are excited about the opportunities for Deva and where it may lead us in the development of next generation multi-media systems for professional use.“
